Well I just bought the Sims 2: Double Deluxe and it installs fine but then I run into a huge problem when I try to start it, it says insert Sims 2 Double Deluxe disc, the disc is still IN the drive, so I hit retry and nothing.  I open the drive take out the cd and put it back in, try to open it again same thing.  I uninstall it and resintall it, same thing.  Any idea what my problem is or could be ??

Several questions about your dilemma:

1) Are you running XP or are you running Vista?

2) Did you already have the base game installed before installing Double Deluxe?

3) Did you already have Nightlife installed before installing Double Deluxe?

4) Did you already have Celebrations pack installed before installing Double Deluxe?

5) (Sorry, but gotta ask.) Are you sure you have the correct disk in your drive?

2) Why would I need the base game installed when it says on the back of the box that it contains The Sims 2, Nightlife, and Celebration Stuff
3) No
4) No
5) There was only 2 discs the double deluxe cd and the bonus dvd, and the double deluxe cd is in the drive when I go to play it

This happen to me with a Clean install of the game. some times  double deluxe dose'nt generate a
a downloads folder see if thats the case...go to my document/EA games/sims 2 and open it up and see if there is a folder called down loads there...if there isn't get sims2clean pack installer its here @ http://linna.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=37577sims2clean pack installer. Then download a sim you want and extract it and load it sims2clean pack installer and see if it shows up. Make sure that view custom content is enable in your game menu..

You wouldn't. Was asking because, if it happened that you had it installed, that would cause the problem you describe, as the base game would need to be uninstalled if trying to run Double Deluxe.

Forgot one more question: is Double Deluxe all you have installed or do you have any other EPs or SPs also installed (Uni, Seasons, Pets, etc.).

The game needs to be run from whatever the newest-released-by-EA/Maxis EP is (or in some cases the newest released SP).

For example, if you had just Double Deluxe and also Open For Business installed, you would need to use the OFB disk, not the Double Deluxe disk in order to play as, even though Double Deluxe came out for sale after OFB, OFB remains a later original release than either of the EPs (base game and Nightlife) included with Double Deluxe.

Next step would be to carefully clean the disk to make sure there aren't any tiny gobs of gunk on it (even brand new disks are often better served by a thorough cleaning).

Also, when prompted to install the disk, when you click OK, what happens? Does it sound as if your disk drive is starting up (may take a short while for that to happen).

Well when you place the disc in the drive is definitely running, it immediately brings up the install menu, and I have no expansion packs or Sims 2 at all, I bought this because it came with Sims 2 and two expansions.

Well when you place the disc in the drive is definitely running, it immediately brings up the install menu, and I have no expansion packs or Sims 2 at all, I bought this because it came with Sims 2 and two expansions.

That may well be the clue needed; sounds as if autoplay is enabled, which would automatically bring up the install  program whenever the disk is accessed.

Tell you what, try doing this (all of the following is easily reversible and in any case will do no harm to your computer):

Remove the disk from the drive.

Open My Computer, then right-click on the disk drive, then left-click on 'Properties' in the right-click menu.

When the Properties box opens up, click on the tab at the top labeled 'Autoplay.'

Scroll down in the 'content type' field and choose 'Mixed Content.'

Then click on the 'Select Action to Perform' option to enable it, then scroll down the list of actions to 'Take No Action' and choose that.

Then click OK.

See if that fixes you up.
