Morgan opened her eyes as the sunlight shone through the partly drawn curtains. She stretched her arm across the bed to reach for Adam, but it was empty. She sat up quickly thinking maybe he might have left while she was sleeping. Straining her ears she listened to see if she could hear him in the flat. Silence greeted her.

Panicking she got out of bed and threw on her dressing gown. “Adam?” she called. She walked out into the hallway and listened, the falling of water made her heart jump as she realised the shower was running. Her body went from cold to warm in seconds as relief washed over her, taking away her fear.

Morgan left Adam in the bathroom to finish his shower. It was good to have him home again, the place seemed brighter with him around, or maybe it was just the fact that he took her thoughts away from the doom and gloom of the place.

She curled up on the sofa. Her whole body still glowing from the feel of Adams touch.

Adam watched her from the doorway. For the first time she looked at peace. The whole world seemed to have lifted off her shoulders. He still didn’t know where she had been all this time, but today was not the day to ask. He felt sad that he had to leave, but he had to go back to Melody, even though his head was screaming for him to stay.

"I have to go now." he said softly. "But I'll be back later."

Morgan looked at him and her chest felt like it someone was trying to shove a knife through it. He was leaning against the doorway, his arms folded over his chest. His blonde hair stood in glistening spikes from the shower. She just wanted to run over to him and not let him go.

Adam walked over to her and crouched down next to where she sat. He brushed the hair from her face and gently stroked her face with his thumb. "I have to go now Morgan." he repeated.

Morgan tilted her head down so that Adam couldn’t see as tears formed at the brim of her eyes. She wanted to pretend that nothing had happened. That Melody didn’t exist and Adam was all hers, but the bitter truth was there. She had given her self to him and now he must go home to his girlfriend.

Adam pulled her close to him; he knew she was crying, his own eyes were on the verge of tears himself. He held her as she buried her head into his shirt. Kissing the top of her head he took in the fruit scent of her hair. "I'll be back later." he whispered. "I promise.

Morgan gave a faint nod and pulled away from him, her mouth trying to give a smile that showed him how much she hoped he was telling the truth.

He kissed her gently on the mouth trying to savour the feeling of her in his arms, while he was away.

Her hand remained touching him as he backed away slowly, just having contact until the very last moment when he was out of reach. "I love you." he said as he turned and walked towards the door.

She stared at the door for a moment after Adam closed it behind him listening to the sound of his feet descending down the stairs. She turned towards the window, condensation covered the inside and she wiped it away with her hand. Adam was on the street now; he looked at up Morgan and waved a kiss to her. Placing her warm hand against the cold glass she let the tears slide down her cheeks as she watched him walk away.
