The flat was in darkness when Adam arrived home. Obviously Melody was still in bed. He entered their flat and braced himself for the screaming match that would come if she realised he hadn’t been home.
He gently opened his bedroom door, the bed looked still made and neat, he couldn’t make out any bumps in the shadows of the room. He reached his arm round and flicked the switch, casting light over the room. She hadn’t been home either.
For some reason, he wasn’t sure why. Adam went to the bed and adjusted the covers so it would appear as if he had slept there. He thought he wanted her to know, so she could throw him out and he could go back to Morgan. Over and over in his head while walking home he had imagined Melody screaming at him for not being home. Imagined her piling his stuff up and making it leave, but now he was home he found him self ensuring that that wouldn’t happen.
Melody let her self into the flat as Adam came out of the bedroom.
“Afternoon.” He said to her sarcastically.
“Don’t start. If it bothered you so much you would have come. “She spat. “You know where the party was.”
Adam sighed. She was right, but he was angry. Angry that she hadn’t been home to notice his absence.
He dropped down onto the sofa, his head was so mixed up. He wanted Melody to find out, but then he didn’t. Why was life never simple?
“Where did you get too yesterday?” she asked him.
“I went back to the flat.” He said not sure if he should continue.
“All day?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
Melody looked at him trying to figure out what he had been doing., There was nothing at the flat that could keep him there for so long, not unless… “What were you doing there?” she asked, hoping it wasn’t what she suspected.
“I er. Nothing.”
“Morgan is back isn’t she? I can tell by the way you are.”
He nodded not daring to meet her eyes, if he looked at her his guilty conscience would call out from his expression.
“Well seems as its boxing day, why don’t you go and get Morgan and we can have a post Christmas Dinner?” She asked him smiling.
Adam frowned. He knew she didn’t like Morgan. Why the change of heart? And would Morgan want to?
“I don’t think she would want to come.” He said trying to get out of it so that he didn’t have to rub Morgan’s nose in the fact that he was living with Melody.
“Oh come on Adam. She has been god knows where for so long now stuck in that crappy flat. She will be starving.”
“Still I don’t think she will.”
Melody stood in front of him with her hands on her hips. He knew that look; she always did this when she was determined to get her own way.
“You go round there now and go and get her and I’ll sort us something out to eat. I wont take no for an answer. And tell her that if I have to personally go and get her I will.”
Adam sighed. This wasn’t going to be pretty. How did he even ask Morgan? Or even talk her into it. It was such a bad idea. God why did he have to open his big mouth?
oddball011:
