They did manage to stop the labour in the end. In fact the baby was three days late.
Adam had held Morgan’s hand for the full seven hours until their daughter had arrived safe, sound and screaming into the world.
When Adam had held Vanessa in his arms for that very first time he had never imagined what looking into her eyes would feel like. He couldn’t even begin to explain it. That that tiny person was part of him, someone who he would love for ever and where ever she was would always be part of him and Morgan. She was perfect, beautiful just like her mother.

The surprise Adam had had for Morgan was a house. It was only small, one floor two bedrooms, but it was theirs. He had used the cheque that Melody had given to Morgan as a deposit.
Any guilt he felt soon evaporated when Julie had told him to view it as a form of compensation for all the trouble Melody and her father had caused.

They hadn’t seen Melody for over two years. She had tried to take Adam to court over the assault in the market. Adam had no idea what Julie had said, but she had managed to get Melody to drop the charges. For that he was grateful.
The last they heard of Melody was that she had married Brad. Morgan had been tempted to send him a sympathy card, but then decided that it was probably better to let sleeping dogs lie.
It was only four days to the wedding. Although they were both looking forward to it and extremely excited, the sad air still hung around Morgan’s head. The question of giving her away had been broached. Morgan would have loved to have her father do it. If she could have one wish it would be for her father to walk arm in arm with her down the isle and her mother as the weeping mother of the bride, but all she could do was imagine it, it would never be real.

Instead Vanessa now two would be the only one to accompany her as she made her way to the alter to become Adams wife.

Adam lent back in the chair and watched Morgan with Vanessa. He loved to see them just playing. Vanessa had her mother’s stubbornness which was already evident even at her young age.
Morgan was trying to sort out her box which Adam had bought her on the day Vanessa was born. It was just a small keepsake box for her to keep memories in, but every time Morgan added something to it, Vanessa took it out again.

“Daddy” she said as she pointed her stubby fingers at one of the pictures of Adam. Morgan laughed and screwed up her face.
“Monster” she said to Vanessa growling playfully.
Vanessa gave a childish chuckle and pointed at Adam. “Motter” she said trying to copy her mother.

Adam smiled and held his arms out as Vanessa cautiously toddled towards him. Her hair was blond just like his, but she had her mothers deep blue eyes. One day she was going to break hearts Adam thought.

Kissing Vanessa he gently placed her back down on the floor. He had an errand to run. Every special occasion that happened in their lives together Adam marked it with a gift to Morgan so that when they were older they would have a collection of memories together. When they moved into their house he had playfully bought her two statues one of Adam and on of Eve. For the birth of Vanessa he had bought her a memory box, which she was now trying to fill with Vanessa's help.

With the wedding staring them in the face he wanted to get her something extra special. Something that money just couldn’t buy no matter how wealthy you were and he knew just where to get it.
After hugging Morgan and kissing her goodbye he left them both together trying to fill the box so that he could go and get her surprise.
