Chapter Three – Part III – First Date (Continued) [/u]
(Told by Rose)
I get all dressed and ready to try and take my mind off things. The fact that all I had was Darren as a "dad" hadn't effected me before. But now! Of all days. I can't let them get to me. Pull yourself together, Rose, you're stronger then this.
I guess I must be stronger then that. Because this is how I turned out:

Not too bad, right? I wish I stood out a little more though. I wish I was a little more...shocking? Noticeable. Dangerous! On the Brightside both Darren and mum didn't notice. I slipped out quietly. I tiptoed around corners, I camouflaged against wallpaper, I hid behind plantpots! I made a fool of myself, but I did it! I'm free! I'm set to go! I can –

"Rose? Rose! Where do you think you're going?" a voice which I knew by chilling instinct to be mothers. I sighed. So close!
"Somewhere over the rainbow." I retorted. I could feel it coming – eep! Never had I been so...rebellious!

"You look nice, dear." She simply replied. I turned around.
"Huh?" was all that came out from me.
"I said, you look nice. Pretty. Where did you get the ribbon from?"
Drat. Of all the items of clothing I was wearing – she chose the ribbon! Lie? Tell the truth? Avoid it?

"Morning, Cassie." interrupted a cheery voice from behind. Again, I spun around in time to see Alvin, the newspaper man.

I smiled in return then ran for it, only daring to look back long enough to see Mother trapped in a conversation with him. With that, I did exactly what I said I'd do – skip off over the rainbow.
