Legend of Plague HouseThis once stately home was the dwelling of several generations of Knowledge
Aspiration Sims. The were filled with a polymath's happy, healthy curiosity
in everything -- from life sciences to paranormal. Then one bright sunny
day Dr. Anton Krebbs was closing in on a breakthrough in his biological
research for a modern panacea, when something went terribly awry.
The Centre for Sim Diseases can only speculate as to the series of events
that transpired in Dr. Krebbs basement laboratory. It is known with fair
certainty that the so-called
Seventh Seal Plague virtually exploded from
the basement like an avenging angel and resulted in the horrific deaths
of some 50 000 Sims in 72 hours.
It was some weeks before Emil Malmo, director of C.S.D., was able to send
properly trained technicians into the region surrounding Simsmouth. The first
team on site reported streets choked with 100s of dead. Within days the
Simnation military reserves were called in to dispose of the bodies.
Improper training and failure to follow microbial protocols resulted in 1000s
more deaths. Before a month had passed, Simnation faces crisis and an
epidemic that threatened to rival the demographic catastrophe of the Twelfth
century. Director Malmo was desperate, he resorted to a practitioner of the
Dark Arts to draw world-renown microbiologist Anton Krebbs back from the
grave -- with less than perfect results.
Zombified Dr. Krebbs was a dubious co-researcher at best, and some weeks
past before Director Malmo became alarmed over something. During a frantic
phone call to President Kyton Salop, the line went dead and Director Malmo
disappeared. Dr. Krebbs -- zombie or not -- was Simnation's best hope for
a cure. Krebbs convinced President Salop that the answer lay in the
basement of his former home.
Dr. Krebbs, already dead, selflessly volunteered to enter the basement --
now known to be "ground zero". An emergency meeting between President
Salop and key members of SimCongress placed the seal of approval on the
proposal to open the basement.
None now live to report the events of that dread day when Krebbs opened
the door to the basement. What is known is that for the next 40 days
the Seventh Seal Plague spread with breath-taking speed through every
level of society. The darker nature of Fortune favoured all equally.
Some 12 millions died in those 40 days.
Yet, as suddenly and unexpectedly as it came into the world, with equal
suddenness and lack of warning, the Seventh Seal Plague ended. Simnation
has spent the last ten years recovering from and grieving for the losses
of the Seventh Seal Plague. Cities have re-populated; life has slowly
returned to normal... In all but Simsmouth. That quiet village by the
sea is now quieter than ever before; a landmark of silence in this
bustling world. Simsmouth point of origin of the Seventh Seal Plague
and location of a singularly ill-fortuned basement.
