Sims2 Directx

Squinge that is exactly what the computer tech guy who installed the graphics card said. He said cause it was installed on a nvidia card that I may have to reinstall on the new graphics card. I will will reinstall the game on the weekend if I don't get time to do it between now and then. Simsample on modthesims2 suggested this: http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?p=1153022 about deleting the sims2 config. I might try that. and see if that helps.

billyd1000: I did download the latest directx but that didn't make a difference either.

Thanks for your help. I will let you know how it goes.

BeosBoxBoy:
scalad - from what I am seeing - the card is failing in testing for directx 9 compatability - if you have an on-board video card and an add-in video card - you will probably have to disable the on-board (built into the motherboard) video card.

Many built-in video cards are not directx 9 compliant - many are  - but the ones that are not will have trouble running most new game like The Sims 2.

Also make certain to remove any old drivers through add remove programmes if possible.  Sometimes even when upgrading drivers this is best.

beosboxboy: I don't think there is an on board graphics card since this the 3rd different graphics card I have had on here. And this is the only one I have had this sort of problem with. My first card with this motherboard board was a nvidia 6600gt 512mb, then I changed to ati radeon x1600pro 256mb(but it was very faulty) now I have this one, x1600pro 512mb. I did remove the old drivers through add/remove program. But as I said in post 3 one of my games would load so I went back to the restore point I had created. But this card only has trouble with the sims2. I am going to try what I said in the previous post now so I will let you know in a couple of hours on how it goes.

Deleting that file didn't help. When I installed the new graphics driver after add/remove the old ones it made no difference. I even installed the new ones over the old ones it made no difference. I maybe looking at to three possibilities:
1. wipe my harddrive and start over.
2. Uninstall sims2(and all the add-ons plus expansions) and reinstall.
3. Taking off the asus drivers that are there but not the ati drivers.

But right now with work and me hopefully transferring out I maybe a little busy. But I am going to sort it out. The strange thing so far the game doesn't crash.

I had the blue screen too... with the newer drivers. Have you tried older drivers with your card? Worked for me :)
