How to use flowerbed fence?

Before the plastic plants and the perfect plants mods, you would have to leave one end open so the flowers could be watered.  Some of the low edging fences had no impact on the ability to tend to the plants, others would act like a 3 metre electric fence - there was really no explaining it.  And after each EP, it seemed to fix one and screw up another.  I finally stopped using the flowerbed edging...  until I fetched up some plastic flowers and shrubs :lol:
