In real life I work as a travel writer, so I thought I'd introduce you to my self sim by showing you a few places that have been on the itinerary over the past year or so. Zev and I took along the trusty Instamatic -- the old-fashioned kind with a roll of film that gets ruined about every other time I try to load the damn thing -- and got a few good shots.
My secret shame was that I was a travel writer who had never been to Italy, so for my last birthday Zev took me to
Florence. Everything about our room was miniature, even the window, but it did look out at a gorgeous church tower.
In
Barcelona, this little cafe sat beside a sunny terrace. The owner didn't seem to mind dragging a table outside so we could soak up the sun (and slurp down a bottle of cava, the local sparkling wine). Here's me, reading a travel guide, of course.
Zev thought this shot was hilarious. In
Antigua, a lovely colonial-era city in Guatemala, we couldn't find the hotel we had booked. (The 50-pound backpacks didn't make the search any easier.) I was cranky and ready to give up when the owner (that's him in the back) found
us and brought us to the hotel, which was less than a block away.
