Hey everyone,

*Not sure if this is the right place for this, so if it's not please be kind ^__^

Ok.... I was just wondering what do you guys use to install your downloads?
Do you use file maid... or do you open each file one by one and extract them all by hand?

I personally extract mine by hand usually, because I like to keep my downloads organized into subfolders as miuch as I can, unless it's a sims2pack, then I use clean installer.

Are you having troubles?

I do mine by hand too using WinRAR. I don't use subfolders though, I like chaos. LOL

I ALWAYS say if you want it done right, do it yourself.  I have never had reliable performance from any of the automated installers.  I use WinRAR and manually extract the files, then manually move them to the Downloads forlder.

I have had varied results from using sub-folders, even EA/Maxis will tell you to move all your downloaded files into the main Downloads directory if you contact tech support, so that is good enough for me: sub-folders, don't need 'em, don't want 'em.

Subfolders are nice for organization but I have found I tend to get duplicates if I have already downloaded something and did not remember doing so.  Keeping them all in one folder helps prevent this from happening.

I don't use sub folders either. I extract mine by hand that way I know they get to the right place. You will want to use WinRAR or a Zip file of some kind. Either work great. I think WinRAR is the better of the two.

Where can I find WinRAR, and is it something you have to pay for it?

You can find WinRAR here . You can try it out for 30 days for free. After that it will prompt that you need to purchase a license for it.

however WinRAR does continue to work even after the free trial has expired, the "please buy" pop-up can be closed and you can get on with your work.

What about the one that modthesims 2 have, I for got the name of it right now, but would that one be a good one to use? I only ask because I have to re-download all my custom contents and well..... I have a lot, doing it all by hand is going to be such a pain, that's why I was wondering if any one knew of a good installer.

If you open the main Downloads folder (if it has subfolders in) with clean installer, it will show all the duplicate and empty files, no matter if they are in different subfolders or sub-sub folders.
