Are you trying to modify included Maxis templates or Sim templates you made yourself that are in your savedsims folder?

Are you able to modify Maxis templates at all?

Are you using the bodyshop related to the most recent ep you have install?

That sounds really weird.  Try deleting your groups.cache and cigen.package file both located in the sims 2 folder.  Also delete your CASthumbnails.package located in the thumbnails folder and then pray.

More seriously, let us know if it help.  If not, try to totally remove your download folder and see if you can modify sim faces  without your downloads.

If so, the bad news is that something in it is causing your problem and you will have to find out what.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the file Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sims3D\CASFace.package?

Yes.  It's needed to modify the faces.

Put Disk 3 of The Sims 2 into your drive.

  • Use Windows explorer to browse to it.

  • The file compressed.zip had a number of directories on it, to include the one you want.

  • Open it up, and browse to TSData\Res\Sims3D.

  • In the folder is the CASface.package you need.

  • Extract it to Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sims3D\
