also, this happened once before and it fixed itself, but I have contest rounds due the 26th, I can't just wait for it to fix itself!

 I hope I won't have to drop out of any contests

Have you tried taking it out and putting it back in?  Maybe even deleting the cache files in your My Document's "The Sims 2" folder just in case? (Groups.cache and Accessory.cache)

If that doesn't work, I'd hate to say that it'd be the SecuRom thing, seeing as no one has had any problems with it on H&M (since you don't need the disk to actually run the game)... so that can automatically be ruled out, I guess.    But I'm sure someone can help you out with a solution if those methods don't work.  Don't want you to miss out on your contest.  I know how stressful it is trying to get things to work in time for the deadline.  Wink

*sigh* the thing is I have a bunch of friends who've made sims on my account and would be so mad if I deleted all the cc- they're the only reason I still have it.

I'll try checking my system software and try a system restore later- I'm not focused enough right now

if only I knew how to do a file check on my downloads and savedsims folders to check if any are bad... can't cleaninstaller do that?

I have no idea if clean installer does that and save the sims your friends made

Just try moving your Downloads folder out of your Sims 2 folder an onto your Desktop, then try running the game... though I don't think a download would be causing a "please insert disk" type of thing to happen... :?
