Hi,
I'm having alot of trouble installing Sims 2 on my dads p.c...
After picking 'English' language, the game then stated that I must have administrative privelleges to install the game.
So I got my dad to give me Administrative Priviledges...
Then it asked me to enter the 'entire code' (20 charectors long) on the back of the user guide book, so I punched in this code. Then the disc spun a bit...

Now here's where the difficulties (my problem) is:-

It then asks...
_______________________________________________
'What type of user are you?'

# Typical User - Default directory
(C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Deluxe)

# Advanced User - Select directory

[C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Deluxe]
                                                                [Browse]
Install Size: 4097.61 MB

[Next>]    [Cancel]
________________________________________________

If I choose # Typical User - Default directory... Then I get this...

'There is not enough space available on drive to install the game.
Please free up some space or change the target location to a different disk.'
[OK]
_________________________________________________

If I click on # Advanced User - Select directory... Then the browser link becomes active ready for use...
I then can select any of the following options...

 - 'My Desktop'
 + My Documents
 + My Computer
 + My Network Places
 - Shared folder
__________________________________________________

If I select 'My Desktop' or 'My Documents'... It enters in the brower box this...

C:\Documents and Settings\ralph\Desktop

                     or

C:\Documents and Settings\ralph\My Documents

And when I click [Next>]... I get this message...

'Cannot install to the selected directory because it may cause the system to become unstable.'
___________________________________________________

If I choose 'My Network Places' or the following alternative in-options for 'Entire Network' and 'Microsoft Windows Network'...

It doesn't select anything and on clicking [Next] it reads (again like before)-

'There is not enough space available on drive to install the game.
Please free up some space or change the target location to a different disk.'
[OK]
____________________________________________________

Last option left... If I try 'Shared Folder' it gives me this again...

'Cannot install to the selected directory because it may cause the system to become unstable.'
____________________________________________________

I've tried making room by deleting a few things and have tried making a New Folder titled 'The Sims 2' but it gives me the same brick wall messages.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do, to get this game installed?
On my dads computer we all have our own user accounts, there's about 7 or 8 accounts. Usually when anything new is added to the computer - we All get it in ech of our accounts - like an updated Windows media player etc...
I'd like to install this game into my account only - if possible, so that others doen't have access to screw around with it.
But if anyone can tell me what I need to do - to get around this current problem first, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi There,

First of all, ALWAYS choose the default location to install.

Second, you're going to need a lot more room on your hard drive, just for the saved games alone. PLUS, if you download any Custom Content and install it, that takes up hard drive space. No matter how small it is.

Check to see how much free space you have on the hard drive. The game size is 4 gigabytes.

what I can say, is ask your father if you can install the game with the default settings, and hide the CD from the rest of your siblings Cheesy
(you can't play without the CD anyway)

and maybe it's time for a spring cleaning on the computer. if 7-8 people are using it, the space on the hard drive is used pretty quick.
then, it may be room for a game like sims2. it's a game that takes up a lot of space, and is not the best game for slow computers. I myself have all sims2 EP's (and most of the SP's) installed, and even without CC, my game is a bit slow. add a couple of gigs to the DL folder, and only startup takes half an hour...
< *needs new, faster computer - with more memory, space and better graphics*
