I recolored a shirt seen here.

After I was finished, I saved it, refreshed it in BodyShop and exported it to the game.

I saved it under a different name, and when I went into my downloads folder to look for it, I couldn't find it. I even looked under date file was modified and still nothing.

I'm clueless.

*hugs* Did you see it in your SavedSims folder? That's where it should be saving to. You should move it to your Downloads folder so you can delete the old projects.
