some of your custom content is conflicting: do the following. make 10 folders, in side downloads, label them as 1 through 10, and divide your content amongst them. remove them, one at a time, and try to start the game between each removal. After it does start, you can start experimenting with putting folders back into downloads. When you've got it located to just one folder, take that folder, divide it's content up, and put the smaller folders into downloads one at a time, until you've narrowed it down to a smaller group. One thing you might look for as well, is any custom content with foreign characters, that seems to hang up loading a bit, as well. Also, DJS has a file compressor for the sims that's very good at saving space.

You might want to make sure your Custom Content is compatible with the base game and Nightlife. Sometimes the poly count is too high on a certain object.

Or, one of the package files is bad.

try doing this:
delete your groups.cache

Go into your sims2 two folder and look for a folder named, Thumbnails.
Delete all the files in there.

The game makes new ones when you start it up again.

The only other thing I can suggest is an increase in virtual memory, your paging file might be too small.... a long shot, really. Other than that, the tedious process I mentioned above. Visit this site: http://www.djssims.com/index.php?category=1&subcat=5 look for the compessor, at 6000, you need it! lol
and this one as well: http://www.simwardrobe.com/ look for the hack detection utility

Excellent. I have all of my cc installed in folders in my download folders, which makes it fairly easy to find the bad files. I usually download to desktop, and unpack the files to a folder named something like "newdownloadsdesktop", compress them, and put that folder into the downloads folder, and start the game; if it starts and runs, (and i always run it to the household level), then all is well and good, and I distribute the cc to the proper folders, ie: walls, floors, furniture, beosjubodies, xmnsims, etc., if not, then the folder is removed, and I begin the process as above, in my previous post, without having to look through all the thousands of files already in place.
