“I…” Anya felt like crying and she really just wanted to sleep.
“Oh come on mom, everyone in this family is against abortion.”



“I just…” Anya pulled together a few shards of courage and spoke the words that, while they were the most frightening possible option, she knew they were the only one she could choose.



“I think I’m just going to have this baby.” Her mother gave her a weak smile. “Whatever you decide, I will still love you, and I promise I’ll support you the whole way.”



 Her mother pulled Sara and Anya into a hug and whispered, “I will always love my girls.”

It was too hot in the doctor’s office. I felt thirsty and cramped and it seemed like half the people in the room were staring at my stomach in disdain.



 I felt grateful that Sara was with me though; we had been best friends since forever. And we had been like security blankets to each other for as long as either of us could remember. One of the nurses called my name and we walked into the room. I felt so guilty for being irresponsible, and at that moment I would have given away everything good in my life to own a time machine.



The goo stuff was cold on my belly, which by now was almost visible through my clothes. And then I looked up at the screen. And fell in love.

As I neared the middle of the eighth month of pregnancy, I began to worry about how good a mom I would be. Turns out, I did not have long to worry.



I was in the kitchen gettintg a snack and a sharp, sharp pain cut through my belly. I yelled at sara to call an ambulance, and while we waited my mom supported my back, helping me breathe.



My water broke at the hospital, and  before I knew it they were telling me to push.



It hurt so much, and I felt so tired, but I did anyway and before I knew it they were telling me I had a daughter.



My mom got to hold her first, but I asked if I could, and she placed her in my arms.



And then, I was a mom.
