There was a discussion about this mod for AL. From what I understood, the mod isn't necessary for AL as long as you have the following three lines in your cheat file:

uintProp maxTotalSims 50
uintProp maxTotalHumans 35
uintProp maxTotalPets 15

Open the Config folder in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\**User Name**\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

If you don't have a userStartup file in the Config folder, create one with Notepad. Never use Wordpad to edit text files because of the special formatting rules the program use for documents that will confuse the game.

If you do have a userStartup file, double-click the file and Notepad will open for you.

Add the above three lines and adjust however you like for either more or less Sims/Pets. The total has to equal both Sims and Pets.

Then save it as userStartup in the Config folder.

Let us know if you have no issues with more than 8 Sims in a family on an apartment lot. This is what I am interested in the most.

I just wanted to add for Vista users the folder is "C:\Users\**UserName**\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config"

vista usere's, like me, should just make a shortcut on there desk-top to the sims folder. Makes like a lot easier for all of the downloads, etc

ok, it seems to partially work. Heres what I mean.
everything normal up to the usual numer of family members limit, then you DO loose the option to 'try for a baby', dont know if ACr will act as a work around on that issue. You also loose the option to adopt a child via the phone. You can still force a pregnancy on the sim's via sim-blender up to the limit I now have then you loose it. Also worth noting is that several of those births were twins. With a family of 7 newborn baby's and 2 adults, I still have the option via the phone to adopt pets.

I've used the userstartup.cheat for this before.  Once you reach the 10-member limit, you cannot try for a baby or adopt a stray pet.  The only way I was able to get the "try for baby" option was Jordi's lotfullofsims mod, which apparently does not work with AL.  (You can still adopt a stray pet with Inge's teleporter.)
