1  A Safe Haven / General Discussion / Re: What are you currently doing (besides being here)? on: October 02, 2009, 06:47:36 pm
Consolidating two storage units into one, eating Ritz crackers with peanut butter, and contemplating a tear-down of my computer so I can replace a couple more of the capacitors.  It's raining tomorrow (supposedly), so I guess I get busy procrastinating, instead.
2  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Genie Lamp is crashing my lots. on: September 23, 2009, 12:26:22 pm

It wouldn't be a bad idea to run Paladin's Hack Conflict Detection Utility (www.simwardrobe.com), too.

Thanks ancient, I couldn't remember the name of that program and hadn't quite gotten around to searching my DVDs full of downloads for it or search the net.

Turns out I had all three InSim packages extracted for some reason.  Hopefully that will fix the problem with the sim I resurected the other day, and it might be the reason for the genie lamp issue.  No joy with entering the lot, though.

Yep...  I'm going to try again at some point, but since I really only need to salvage that one lot (I moved the second one to the bin and back before I moved my sime in), it can wait.  I'm going to try with a computer restart in the mix to see if that helps.  I can always rebuild the house...just didn't want those hours to be wasted.  Wouldn't make much sense to do something more drastic like reinstall, unless that's necessary.  The problem with the lamps ariving seems to have stopped (not that two verifies I had that problem).
4  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Genie Lamp is crashing my lots. on: September 19, 2009, 03:23:18 am
Ok, so I've been away from playing Sims for a while due to exploring Windows 7, then a few caps on my motherboard going south, etc...  Installed my game (all EPs no SPs) and all seemed well.  Got a character sent off to university and soon after, she received a genie lamp.  Sweet!  I just moved it out of the way and played on.  Next time I tried to enter the lot, the game crashed.  Didn't connect the two...  After a couple of tries, I moved her and her roommies out and into a new house.  Still no dice on entering the old lot even with the Sims moved out.  Hmm...  Oh well, I only spent about three hours modding that house for them.  Moved them into a simple house since I wasn't sure if the new lot would crash...  It didn't.  Cool!  Few Sim days later, another genie lamp...  It finally clicked that was what crashed the other lot.  Ok...  so, this time, I used the lamp and it went away...  But now I can't enter that lot.  Is there a way to repair these lots (mostly I want that first one fixed)?  So far I've turned off CC and removed my Download folder.  If I were to dig into the lot with SimPE what should I look for?  It's been about a year since I've gotten my hands dirty.

I almost got my Grandparent's '67 Impala...but my dad finally had it hauled off a couple of years ago. Cry
It was a 2-door with the 327 Turbo-Fire 275 HP engine and TH400 transmission.  It also had AC.  I never had any money to get it running again, though.  Well, I did once, but I bought my '74 Trans Am, instead...

[Dollhouse]  So, there's this...  http://tinyurl.com/d7vzrp and then there's this...  http://tinyurl.com/d6lu6d
Hmmm...  Well, there's still work to do.  But evidently it's on the block, not chopped yet.

Why not just use the aspiration rewards one?

We (Me, my wife and my in-laws and Mystique, Rogue, Colby and Brie) just got back from the ball field.  It's fun watching the pups fly around free at 30+mph for an hour or so...  Hopefully they will be quiet tonight.

Lord I can't survive without Bones!  I am soo not into blood and gore but I can't tear myself away from that one.  Just no snacking while viewing, Tee Hee.  Angel (who cares if it's canceled I still gotta have it).   Without a trace, Cold Case files, Monk, Psych, occasionally The Closer.

"Leverage" is good at times too, though I think they need to move their offices to wall street and provide some leverage with the econothieves. BBC.
Mrs brat Still won't watch the WB after what THEY did to Angel

I thought Angel ended pretty well, if cut short.  I've probably re-watched the entire Buffy-Angel series(es) about 4 times, and think that everything turned out just fine.  Hell, even the story arcs that seemed like a waste when you're sitting through them for a whole season don't seem so bad when you only have to sit through them for a week or so...  I'm definitely going to find out where I can bitch about Dollhouse being cancelled and sign up for a couple of petitions.  Maybe another network will pick it up...?

I'm going to be watching what happens with Dollhouse.  It's not unprecedented for a show to live through a cancellation.  I think they gave it the worst slot for the type of show it is that they could possibly give and I'd be shocked if they didn't anticipate this.  Never mind.  I'm never shocked by stupidity on the part of marketing execs.  Why can't they retroactively cancel Knight Rider and give Dollhouse that slot.  Oh, and if your looking for another good show, I really like Bones...  Love the comedy thrown in to the mix with blood, guts and gore in a crime drama type show.

The Crow
The Professional
Le Femme Nikita
Little Nicki
Hot Shots
Airplane!
Vanishing Point
Highlander and Highlander 4
Die Hard
Shek
Terminator
The Godfather series

There's more, but that's off the top of my head that hasn't already been mentioned...

Kinnika, Xp. is still being supported by Microsoft until such a time that win.7 takes hold. The win.7 beta was released in January for evaluation and will replace both xp and vista. The good news is that unlike vista you will not need any hardware upgrade$. Even better news it boots quicker than xp and any old pc that's running xp. will run even better on win.7

I think that computers running better with 7 than with XP is a bit conditional.  I can run XP on a computer that doesn't even have enough HD space to run 7.  The 7 beta I'm running right now seems more stable than my XP Pro SP3, but boot times are a bit longer and the same software seems slightly slower.  I'm not put off by that at all, mind you.  For the better looking interface, I'll pay the price.  Well, until August, that is...  I'll be working on putting together a new rig and depending on the budget, I may stick with XP.
