11  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Requests / Hotlinking: What it is and why it isn't allowed. on: October 27, 2014, 05:49:32 pm
There is still confusion about hotlinking images and why it's not allowed. Hopefully this explanation will help clear this up for those of you who are still confused.

Hotlinking to an image (also known as piggybacking, leeching and other descriptive names) is when you use the img tags to wrap around an image found on another site to make it appear here, or any other site. This is bandwidth theft. Every time a page with a hotlinked image is loaded, the outside server has to use bandwidth to display the image... bandwidth someone else is paying for. It's bad netiquette and we don't allow it. If it helps you to understand, it's like someone else plugging into your phone line to make a long distance call you have to pay for. Bandwidth theft is a serious issue since you are, in essence, stealing money out of someone's pocket. Whether there are img tags around a hotlink or not, a hotlink is a hotlink.

What you should do is save the image to your computer and upload it to a third party image hosting service, such as Photobucket, Imageshack or whatever hosting site you prefer, and display it here that way. Most image hosting sites are simple to use and will provide you with the bulletin board code you need for your images to display here. It only takes a few minutes to upload and grab the code (so the oft seen "I didn't have the time" excuse is a poor one, indeed). Any images we find hotlinked will be removed and if you keep hotlinking after being asked not to, you will be warned and possibly even banned.

A clarification courtesy of Tenshii~Akari:

Another clarification on hotlinking:

Posting links from another site that goes straight to downloading a file off of their site is also bandwidth theft.  Please refrain from doing this.  If you have a link to a download on a site you want to share but the page won't allow you to directly link to it, please remember to link to the site's homepage and add instructions on where to look instead of doing the previously mentioned.
12  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Requests / Fullfilling Requests on: October 27, 2014, 05:48:20 pm
Hi everyone.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who takes the time to fulfill requests. Even though thanks aren't always given, please know it is appreciated.

What I would like to ensure is, when you do fill requests, please utilize the proper section of the forum to upload it, instead of uploading to the request thread. It's a guarantee others would love to be able to have new shiny things in their game, and they'll be more certain to find it in the Downloads area than in the request thread. If you want to share a picture first to show the OP, then you're welcome to use the request thread, as long as as you remember to share your creation in the proper place. If the OP wishes the item in question to be for their own use, then please use the PM system to send the link.

If you have any questions, please PM one of the staff and we'll be happy to help.

Thank you for your understanding and continued help.
13  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Requests / Before Making Requests on: October 27, 2014, 05:47:15 pm
Before you post a request, please read the following:

First, all regular site rules apply to this section.

If you are looking for a mod, please take a look at the existing mods already made for the game. Mod the Sims, Simbology, MATY, this site and many others already have a lot of mods. There are so many different mods that do the same thing, so chances are what you want to have done has already been done. Check the sites I listed here first before posting here to request any mod, please. When you post, please mention if you've looked at other sites, what patch you have and if you have the EP to ensure a mod is made that is compatible with your game.

If you're looking for a sim, same rules in regards to images needed applies here as in the Sims 2 request section. We need a good front shot, a profile (side) shot and a three-quarter view. It's best if your hair is back from your face and you are not smiling or making any other faces. A neutral expression is best for reproducing accurate sims. More detail about the images needed can be found here.

If you make a request, please be patient and don't expect a response right away. Making any custom content takes time and people do it for fun. They fulfill requests as a favor, not because they are obligated, so you would do well to keep this in mind. Do not, under any circumstances, bump your thread to keep at or near the top. If you do it, you risk having your thread locked or deleted. If you think of something new to add to your request, please make use the "modify" button in the top right corner of your post.

Give as much information as you can regarding what you want. If we have to guess, you may not like what you get. When requesting a sim, this even includes providing what age, hair colour and eye colour you want. It's not always perfectly clear in a photo.

Be sure to state what EPs/SPs you have. If you don't, then we can't guarantee what is made for you will work for you.

Regarding converting items from Sims 2 or Sims 3 over to Sims 4: We won't convert EA game items from Sims 2 & 3 over to 4 (or vice versa). We will, however, convert player made custom content from one game to the other, but only with the permission of the original creator.

Keep in mind, many people have slower internet connections, so please restrict the number of pictures you post to four or less.

Do not, under any circumstances, EVER hotlink. We will burn all hotlinks. Repeat offenders will be warned and possibly banned. All images must be hosted on a third party image hosting site (photobucket, etc).

15  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Help / Things to Do Before Asking for Help on: September 22, 2014, 08:43:20 am
Please take a moment before posting to see if your question has already been asked. We don't need or want ten threads asking the same thing.

Know your computer specs and post them. What we need is your operating system, processor, graphic card(s) and RAM.

As more EPs become available, please let us know what EPs/SPs you have.

If you have a screen shot of the problem, post it in the body of your post via third party image host (do NOT attach it via the attach tool or your help request may be removed). If you have an error log file, you can upload this via the attach tool.

The attach tool is enabled here ONLY for error logs.

Be patient. We know your problem is important to you, but people help here on a volunteer basis and we all have lives outside the game. If someone can help you, they will. With this in mind, please do not bump your thread to keep it to the top.
