 -- Chapter One: Annelise--
I guess you could say this was the first, and I can’t believe I’m admitting this myself, but that morning I was actually exited to get out of bed and prepare to go to school. I know it’s hard to believe, but I just love the first day of school, I’m not joking, I really do. However, that morning was special. It wasn’t an ordinary day of school, but it was the first day of high school. You see, the first day of high school doesn’t compare to the first day of elementary school, or middle school, because high school is when you enter the real world. High school is those four years of your life you will look back on. Seriously, have you ever heard anyone go, “hey remember that in middle school?,” because I sure haven’t. High school is when you have the possibility to have your first kiss, get your first boyfriend, or go to dances! Alright, I admit it, I have not been kissed by boy, or girl for that matter, just letting you know before you get any bright ideas, in my entire life; nor have I had a boyfriend. For some reason, these kinds of things are important for a fourteen year old girl. Now enough about the facts on high school, now let’s talk about me; I always wanted to say that. My name is Annelise, and I’m fourteen years of age, and today I start the beginning of my life.

As usual I waited on my bed, staring constantly at my clock, waiting for it to wake me. However, I always wondered why I needed an alarm, considering I felt like I was the one waking it, rather than the other way around. And so, finally the alarm went off. I can’t say I was overjoyed, because I wasn’t. I was more nervous, and when I say nervous, I mean NERVOUS. I get nervous easily, it’s not a good trait, but doesn’t everyone? Finally, I took a deep breath and got out of bed. The floor was cold, as usual. I tipped toed my way, consciously, through the darkness in my room. Unlike most teenagers, my floor is very clean, and you can see the color of my carpet.
Soon as I was able to locate my switch, the room twinkled with colors, everything was a blur. I then schemed through my closet.

As usual, I had nothing to wear. My mother doesn’t really focus on buying clothing when it comes to school, she rather purchase anything that evolves educational purposes. Fantastic! I had to wear the same immature clothing I wore last year, and the year before that, for that matter. Sigh. I couldn’t really find anything suitable, so I grabbed a clean t-shirt, and a nice pair of jeans, which resembled skinny jeans. Good enough if you ask me. After, I did my usual morning activities. I took my shower, brushed my teeth, and blah blah blah.

Soon as my bathroom tasks were finished, I rushed down the stairs toward the kitchen, grabbed my jacket and book-bag, and ran straight for the door. I was surprised to find that my mother hadn’t asked if I had eaten anything or asked any further on questions that morning, like she always does. I didn’t think too much of it, though, and continued my preparations. I slipped on a pair of fresh new socks, and covered them with a shoe, and rushed outside to catch the bus. However, before I was able to reach it, I had to tumble my way down the hill, where my house was located upon. I reached the bus stop on time, and as soon as the school bus arrived I marched myself on to it, preparing myself for the journey, but pondering about the destination. High school here I come!

OK, I merged your previous two posts together, as you've noticed, and I'll be merging this one as well. Please refrain from replying to yourself within the same 24 hour period. Just an F.Y.I this story alternates between 2 different character's (Annelise and Chloe) point of view. They also start off where the other chapter left off.

The HighSchool Notebook Chapter 2: Chloe

I’m Chloe and …well, It’s the first day of high school.  Of course I am standing in the middle of the hall, lost, nervously looking around to find the auditorium. It took 10 minutes of quickly walking down hallways and about a dozen wrong turns into classrooms but I finally found the auditorium.

Just my luck, the presentation had already started and everyone was sitting down. The only free seats were in the back, which I really didn’t mind. Who wants to be up in front anyways? I sat next to this tall guy that smelled like 3 day old bologna and had crazy acne; he kept fidgeting with his hands. I could tell he was nervous.

We all were.  After 30 minutes of alternating between staring at the principal, looking around for people I knew and hoping for the day to be over, we got to go to our first class. All my classes until 5th period were pretty much the same. I would go in, pick a seat in the middle and hope for somebody I knew to come along. But 5th period was something special, it was the only class I had with my best friend Annelise. She was the only one there except for the teacher when I walked into the room. That was very typical of her. She was that well mannered, smart and quiet girl that was always responsible and punctual. The first thing I managed to do was trip on the leg of a desk and fall flat on my face. What a great first impression to make on a new teacher, but then again she would have learned I was a klutz eventually. Annelise walked over and helped me up and my teacher, Mrs. Roucle, asked if I was okay which still embarrassed me but it’s better than tripping in front of a whole class. Once the bell rang Mrs. Roucle got down to business. She was informing us of the school rules, you know the ones we have to hear every year that never change. I really wanted to talk to Annelise, talking with her was the only good part of my day! So I decided to use the old elementary school method. Passing notes.

She sat right in back of me so it couldn’t be that complicated. She didn’t really understand what I was doing at first and I didn’t understand what she was trying to say. We both failed at mouthing words. I scribbled on a piece of paper and swiftly passed it behind me with out the teacher seeing. Success.

--------------------------------------
C:Hey Annelise! How’s your day going?
A:Hi Chloe! Fine, and yours?
C: Eh. So far today is not my day Sad
A: I’m sure you’ve had worse. Think positive, it’s not so bad. Remember. This is our year.
C: Our year?! You must be joking.. We are the bottom of the food chain here!
A: True, but we can bring ourselves further to the top!
C: How do we do that exactly? Unless we like brainwash or replace everyone with lab rats, we are going to be nobodies!
A: Well, the time will come. Besides, Today I met a really cute boy. He is in my second period class!
C: Oh la la! What’s his name? What’s he like? Tell me everything!
A: Alright alright. His name is Jacob. Brown hair, blue eyes, you know my type right?
C: Are his eyes blue like the sparkly ocean? Hah just kidding. So have you guys talked?
A: Not exactly. I mean not at ALL. You know me, I couldn’t talk to a guy if my life depended on it. Plus, I think we share some similarities, for example he is as quiet and shy as I am. I know, can you believe it?
C: Yes! Cheesy That’s awesome! Remember what you said “The time will come” if he’s smart he will snatch you up in no time!
A: Yea, I doubt it. I bet he doesn’t even know I am alive… Sad Did you know most of the students we’ve known since elementary school don’t recognize me.. It’s sad really.
C: I doubt your doubts! What do you mean they don’t recognize you, it’s not like you got a face transplant!
A: I know, but most of them asked if I was a student from another school. I had to answer them back, explaining that I’ve known them for quite some time. It took a while for them to realize I was telling the truth. It was awkward at that moment.
C: Awww. You need to tell me who said that. I am going to go up to them and be all like “Oh *Insert name here* I didn’t recognize you, you must have gotten uglier!” Bahah. I love ya but I don’t want to look back at my first day of high school and remember getting punched in the face several times.
A: Haha. It's good to know your sense of humor hasn’t changed, but face it. I am invisible. Seriously, I should practically be a part of the fantastic four or the justice league for it. I CAN DEFEAT BAD GUYS BY CAUSING THEM MEMORY LOSS TOWARD MY IDENTITY. I wouldn't even need a secret identity, considering everyone would forget who I am in the first place
C: Wow..  You seriously made me laugh out loud. Mrs. Roucle looked at me like a crazy person. It's their loss if they don't remember. You’re an awesome person! Dude I can't wait to go home!
A: I know what you mean! I can't either. However, I have dance after this. Followed by History, I am so full of joy... I hope that cute guy is in another one of my classes
C: I have Math then English. Ick. By the way, If that cute guy is in your dance class.. You might want to rethink the whole liking him thing. Tongue
A: Haha! Good point! I'll keep that in mind, but you never know! Guys that can dance can be hot, cause would you seriously date a guy who danced like a fish out of water? I know I wouldn't!
C: Well then again dating a guy who danced like he was having seizures would give me a confidence boost because I would look like an award winning dancer compared to him. We only have 3 minutes left!! Woohoo!
A: As much as I enjoyed listening to this woman go on about the course, I did enjoy talking to you! And this is like the only class we can talk.. I miss you!
C: Hahah! I know! I'll miss you too. I guess we can talk later to night... Have a good day BYE!
A: Umm.. you know you could just say that to me out loud, right? Class is over.
C: ... I just felt the need to finish the note, that’s all. Smiley
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rest of the classes after 5th period were the same routine as earlier. Walk in, take a seat in the middle of the room and hope for somebody I know to walk in.  When I got home I was overjoyed, finally I could just relax. Before I could get to my room my mom bombarded me with one million questions: How was your day? Did you like your teachers? Do you like your classes? I just gave her the cliché answer most kids give.. It was fine. It’s not like I was expecting it to be the greatest day of my life or anything. I took off my shoes and laid down on my floor staring at the ceiling.

Why couldn’t the summer last longer.  You get to wake up in the afternoon, stay up till 3 in the morning and spend all your free time with your friends at the pool.. Or just sitting there watching T.V. The lovely simple ways of summer life.

Chapter Three: Annelise

The school day was tough, and I was just glad I was home. High school is not easy, and my day didn’t go as well as I had hoped. One, my friends were barely in any of my classes. Two, most of the students I’ve known since elementary school could barely remember my name! And three, most of my teachers are strict. Yet, it wasn’t all that bad... there were some positive things about my day. Chloe is in my fifth period class, and I have this really cute guy in one of my classes.

I’m exhausted, but I have too much homework, already. I don’t think taking one small nap will hurt though. I’m just going to rest my eyes, that’s all. But before I knew it I was fast asleep.

I woke up the next day, feeling as light as a bird, but all of that changed when I realized I had not finished my homework, the following night. What were my teachers going to think of me now?! I’m no slacker?! Honest!

I prepared myself for school that morning, as fast as I could, so I could spare some time to finishing up some of the homework, I didn’t do the day before. Since it was the first day, how hard could it be? I was WRONG!

I wasn’t able to finish all of my homework, but I was able to complete some. The bus came late that day, but so did I. I wanted to finish the rest of the work, on the bus, but the landscaping around here makes it impossible to hold up a pencil correctly.

Soon as I arrived to school, I headed straight for my classroom, but I got a little bit distracted. I saw a group of pretty good looking guys, I bet they were seniors. I urged myself to stop staring at them and walk properly, but it wasn’t all that simple. However, something helped me do the job. SLAM! Face plus locker opening, equals pain and humiliation! And, landing flat on your butt!

“Are you alright?” A soft voice called out to me.
“I’m… I’m fine” I answered, but I couldn’t see straight, and my head felt like it had been pounded with a sack full of bricks, hundreds of times.
“Would you like me to bring you to the nurse?” The voice asked.
“Um… no, thank you, I think I will be fine.” I felt so lightheaded, that I could barely stand up straight. What are these lockers made out of any ways?!

When I finally was able to see properly, I saw myself being lifted up by a GUY! And, not just any guy… Jacob! I couldn’t breath, and my face turned the darkest shade of red. I felt warm, my palms were sweaty, my heart felt as if it would rip out of my chest at any moment. My throat tightened, and I could feel my breath disintegrating.

“Please forgive me, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He spoke in the most sincere way. “Are you sure you’re alright?”
I didn’t answer. I couldn’t answer! This was too embarrassing!

“I have to go!” I yelled out; and loud too! “I’m going to be late!”  I was embarrassed. Worst first impression, ever!

I knew the day wasn’t going to go too well at that point. I couldn’t pay attention to any of my lessons. All I could think of was this morning. Second period was the most frightening class of the day, since it was the one I had with Jacob. Good thing all the teacher does in that class is lecture us, and I was two rows away from him. However, I couldn’t stop shaking during that class, I couldn’t even bare to take a quick glance at him. Soon as the bell rung, I was the first one through the door. To tell you the truth, I don’t think I was fast enough out of there!

During lunch I couldn’t eat, and all of my friends kept on asking me if I was alright, or if anything had happened during the day, which would cause me to act so unusual. I just looked up at them, with a smile, and kept responding, “Everything is fine.” Too bad it wasn’t, and they knew perfectly well that.

As soon as lunch ended, I thought fifth period would make me feel a little better, since Chloe is in it. She’s my best friend, I can tell her anything, and she would always understand. At that point, I knew my day was going to get a little better. But, I was wrong… it didn’t. Chloe did not attend class today.

Soon as I arrived home, I ran straight for my room. Jumped right on to my bed, and shed a few tears. As soon as that was taken cared of, I tried to contact Chloe and check why she was absent today. I called over ten million times, but no answer. I gave up, and began doing homework, but I couldn’t stop thinking about this morning. Everything that had happened kept flashing by again and again! Ugh! I can’t focus like this!

Chapter 4: Chloe

I was doing my homework, when I noticed that Annelise hadn’t called me, which was pretty weird, considering that I wasn’t there for fifth period. Maybe she was mad? I started to get sad at the thought, but then I looked at my phone. It was off! I quickly turned it on, seeing a bunch of missed calls from Annelise. I felt a knot in the bottom of my stomach, something was wrong. I dialed her number so fast, that I got a majority of it wrong. Some random guy answered saying “Hey big man,” I pressed the end button so fast I almost broke it. When we finally started talking, she told me about her embarrassing hallway mishap with Jacob. I felt really bad for her. She’s the nicest person in the world, and so why exactly did she deserve that? I’m a strong believer in karma, but I don’t see why those kinds of things don’t happen to the cliché popular girls, that actually deserve it. You probably know what I mean: rude, careless, annoying and childish. I don’t really like stereotypes, but if the shoe fits, wear it!

Right after I gave her a fifteen minute pep talk, I had to explain why I wasn’t in fifth period. It was actually a really stupid reason.

At the end of lunch, right before fifth period, one of the assistant principals asked me to come to the office.

My mind flooded with reasons why I would be asked to come to the office. They told me to wait in one of the chairs in the secretary portion of the office. I sat there for fifteen minutes staring at the clock, and listening to the secretary typing. It was very relaxing, but stressful at the same time. With every tick of the clock, I felt my impatience increase, but all my nerves about seeing the principal seemed to just melt away with every push of the keys.

The principal, Mr. Cline, came and escorted me to his office.

His office was a medium sized room, with a color scheme of brown and blue, and a bright white carpet. The room felt dark, there was plenty of light, but it just had a dark feeling about it.
He then asked me to explain my interpretation of an incident that happened on the bus between two boys, Pete and Griffith. I could feel a small amount of anger rise inside me. That’s what he made me sit out there for?! A five minute story about how two boys wanted to show their “manliness”. I told him exactly what happened. Pete tripped Griffith, then Griffith shoved Pete, and they both started shouting “Let’s go!” and “Bring it”. Typically nothing really happened, they were both just all talk and no action. All Mr. Cline did during my story was nod and write on a piece of paper. It was rather awkward.

He let me go back to class, and I was back in time for the last 10 minutes of math. I sat down and took a deep breath. The girl next to me, Autumn, asked where I was. Autumn was new at our school, she moved 7 houses down from me and didn’t have that many friends, but she had awesome style in pop rock clothes. I told her the whole story and she told me she was also questioned by Mr. Cline.

However, she told Mr. Cline she didn’t recall any incident happening on the bus. She didn’t want to be a snitch. Being a snitch in this case didn’t bother me, I didn’t care about it one bit. Don’t get me wrong now, usually I am not a snitch but this whole thing was just stupid and needed to be ended already. In return for her silence, Autumn was given a coupon for a few free treats at the cafeteria. I was speechless. They gave her free stuff for lying?! What is wrong with the world these days? Apparently lying gets you 3 big chocolate chip cookies and honesty gets you nothing but disappointment, because you miss the only class you have with your best friend.

Annelise was appalled by the injustice. That’s one thing I love about Annelise. She would take anything that happened to me personally. I always have someone to be there for me and to be my back up.

We talked for two more hours over the phone. Every now and then she’d slip in a “I seriously can’t believe that happened” or “I’m so embarrassed,” I completely understood. If that happened to you, in front of your crush would you be all mellow and happy? I don’t think so.

That night I just couldn’t fall asleep. It wasn’t that there were a million thoughts going through my head or I just wasn’t tired, I just couldn’t fall asleep. I decided to start reading, hoping that would do the trick. It didn’t. I looked at the clock 2:34 A.M. I was getting so irritated with the fact that I couldn’t sleep, even though I was majorly tired.

I finally fell asleep at about 3:25 A.M. I woke up to the not-so-cute-anymore tune of my alarm clock at six. Less than three hours of sleep, great way to start the third day of school! I took a lot longer doing my morning routine than usual, but I was too tired to worry about being late for school.

In what seemed like forever, I got to school. My body felt so heavy as I was walking down halls from class to class. I managed to stay awake in all my classes before lunch. Eating food didn’t really help, not even the two sodas I had, did anything to make me less sleepy. I walked into fifth period. I said hi to Annelise, then plunked down in my seat, put my head down on my desk and closed my eyes.  Just as I was beginning to fall asleep, I felt someone poke me. Thinking it was Cooper, the boy that sits next to Annelise that also seemed to take pleasure in annoying me; I said “Leave me alone” I felt another poke. I tried to ignore it but when I felt a third poke, I was fed up. “Leave me alone you annoying creeper!” I blurted out of my mouth.

“Oh, Miss. Thomas,” I heard Mrs. Roucle say, while poking me again. My eyes shot open wide and I jumped up. She looked rather angry... why me?!

It might get discouraging when you don't get the feedback you want, but don't ever let it stop you from writing. Often people don't say anything because they don't feel they have anything constructive to say. As I've said in a few other threads in which people expressed the same sentiment, I can't count the number of times I've posted something I was proud of and gotten nothing in return. Yes, I will admit, it does sting, but if I post only for the comments, then I'm cutting off my own nose to spite my face. If I create something and share, it's because I love it and want others to see what I've done, not for the accolades I might get. Smiley

This is actually very good. I'd also like to say that it is a pretty good portrayal of the very first day of High school (all the freshies were freakin' out at my school today! rolleyes)
