Ugh. I just don't know where to start.

I guess back in December of '12 I was in the middle of creating new neighborhoods. My game was fine then and rarely crashed, even though I had around 40,000 packages in my download folder. I decided to download some new lots for my hood and once I installed a few my game began crashing 15 minutes into placing lots. When I would load a lot, it would immediately crash. Sometimes when I clicked on random lots, it would crash. When I switched neighborhoods, It would crash.....

I opened the Clean Installer numerous times, cleaning out everything: hacks highlighted in red, pink files, etc......then I would start my game, numerous times afterwards and the same thing would happen. Evidently, my game was completely clean. The 'LotCatalog' was the first to give me the following error message: 'SystemOutOfMemoryExceptionThrown'. It would repeatedly say that as all of the lots had loaded until when I clicked on the picture of any lot , I would see a big red 'X' instead.

To this day I am experiencing the same issues. But now whenever I run the Clean Installer in the downloads section only, I get the following message as it scans files: 'Object referance not set to an instance of an object.'. It will say this in a message box that individually contains random files, that aren't corrupted to my knowledge. I almost always get either of the messages every time I open up the clean installer, and if i don't ever get the message then I really don't know why...

I have tried everything, from uninstalling to reinstalling, upgrading ( it isn't my computer that has some issue, I have a new one, so I have enough RAM and etc.), etc. I've posted this issue in some other sim forums and nobody really knows what to do, basically. I am so miserable and I don't even want to play this game anymore because of this persistent issue. !!!!!!!!

A picture of the error message:

If I need to post my computer spec then I will later

Yes, please post your computer specs. It will help us rule out a computer issue as part of the problem (or identify it).

Hm, I noticed that I don't have a folder that contains either the: CSBin, The Sims 2, The Sims 2 Store Edition, TSBin or TSData. Could there be a connection to the game problem that I'm having.? The only folder that I have within the EA Games folder is "The Sims 2 Double Deluxe" one. I've heard that not having either of those folders could mess your game up in the later. I'm just throwing this out there......

So the CSBin, TSBin or TSData are not inside the "The Sims 2 Double Deluxe" folder at all?
You are looking in program files, and not in Documents, right? Because if those folders are missing entirely from the "The Sims 2 Double Deluxe" folder in Program files, then yes it's probably where the problem is. Those folders are essential for the game to run.

Depending on your operative system (I've got Windows 7), the path will look something like this
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\CSBin
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\TSData
and so on. This is where the installed files are.

And not this
C:\Users\[name]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
- this is where the Downloads folder and the current game files are.

By the way, is there any reasons you've got two Downloads folders? I just noticed that in the picture the path for your downloads is
C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Downloads\Downloads...

The "Objects not set to instance..." error is the same I get if I've messed up a mesh in SimPE. It often means the CRES resource of the mesh is missing or doesn't work properly, and since the CRES contains essential joint- and animation info the object won't work without it. It could be that this message appears if you're missing meshes, so if you're missing entire folders in Program Files, that might be the reason.

Then again, if the folders really are missing I don't think your game would be able to run at all.

Hmm... Yes, they aren't showing up at all when I go to the program files. The only files that show up in that path are: Base, EADM, EP2, EP99, Sims 2, Sp4, Support and the CEp uninstalled. I have a Windows 7, by the way. I have no clue as to why I have two download folders, it's been this way since I installed the game on my new comp. in the recent past, I've tried deleting it but it automatically comes back.

Have you checked the BASE folder or any of the others? I think the Double Deluze game is put together a little different from the original basegame (which is what I have), so it's fully possible all the info stuff is in one of the other folders.

Ah, it's all in there (base). I'm still a bit stumped now though.

You started having problems after downloading some lots.  In describing what you've done to troubleshoot, you don't say if you uninstalled those new lots.  Looking at your posts, it looks like you don't have all EPs, which opens up the possibility that your new lot requires an EP you don't have.  If you can remember where you got the lots, go back and see if there are any EP requirements.  If you can't remember you'll have to creatively find a way to remove the new lots without removing the lots that do work.  Install date in File Manager might work.

My initial thoughts on reading the error message you are getting in CI is there are too many files for it to process.  If you have your downloads in folders you could remove folders and see if CI starts processing properly.  No matter how much RAM a computer has, a 32-biit Windows program limits memory use to 3 GB.  But then again, it could be the lot requiring a missing EP.

I have all EP's installed, except for Apartment Life.

At one point all of the lots I currently have in my game worked fine and I didn't get any error message in the clean installer. I don't know why I would be having issues with certain ones if I've played them before. They technically aren't 'new'. I have taken my downloads folder out and ran the clean installer in the lotcatalog section earlier and didn't recieve any error messages, I really don't think it's a lot at this point.

Does your game work fine without any custom content?

And if so, how much CC did you have when the problems started?

In theory you can have an almost unlimited amount of CC if your computer is powerful enough and by doing a few tricks that can up the performance or go around the 3GB memory limit, but in reality it comes down to what your computer can handle. If all the items in that list of lots is installed on your computer, and if all of those had a lot of CC, in addition to any other CC you have, then you might be reaching the limit for your game.

"SystemOutOfMemory" might simply mean that your computer can't handle all the custom content and crashes when it reaches the memory limit. I get that error on my laptop sometimes when I'm running SimPE. And if my game reaches its limit it crashes (randomly, or when doing heavy-duty things like "change appearance" or handling weather, or loading a lot that is too heavy - even having too many high poly meshes can slow it down). If your game - when it works - is slow and lags, then this is even more likely.

CI might have the same memory errors, crashing when it gets too much. It does not necessary mean there's something wrong.

Remember that the game is not only loading CC, but also all the EPs and SPs. Some computers can't even handle the EPs alone, and by piling up CC on top of that you're looking at a disaster about to happen.

Yep, it runs smoothly.

I really didn't have much at the time, perhaps around 25,000 -  30,0000 packages. No hacks at the time, I believe. Most hair, acc, some clothes and neighborhood decor.

My game currently doesn't lag much, ever since I got my new comp. it's actually running better than it ever has. My last comp really couldn't handle the game anymore after a number of years.

Also, the majority of those lots that are installed have either very little to no cc installed.

If I am indeed having a memory issue, then what can I do to resolve the issue. ? And what can I do about the second error message ? 'Objects not set to referance"

If you have CC that is specific for given neighborhood, such as medieval or fantasy, and all that CC is in your Downloads folder, it's using up a lot of the filehandles and memory.
I made a small program to handle different themes, allowing you keep only the CC in the game that you need for a given neighborhood.  Miros is hosting it at Wooden Simolean.  It may solve your problems if you have themed CC.

Okay, so I've tried the program and everything. Unfortunatley, my game is still crashing. When I entered one of my neighborhoods I clicked on two lots that didn't have any CC, then I exited them. No issues. Then I clicked on a random lot that had CC. It crashed at about seven minutes into loading that particular lot. Should I undo what I've done to my game so far.?

I'd say it's either a memory problem, or your game can't handle certain CC. Depending on where you got the lots from, it might be that the lots are borked. Some people don't clean their lots properly... I've had lots with one single piece of CC that just did not want to stop crashing (usually an object).
