Hi everyone,

I put together an example television channel and a simple tutorial on how to create and add your own custom television channels to the Sims 2...

Let's open the Custom Television Channel.package file in SimPE and begin with the "Object Data" file...

Next let's choose what we want our pie menu caption to say...

now let's change the text value from tvstation_insimenator to what you want your channel pointer to be called in the Broadcast.ini file....

now, we will add a new television station directory to our game and name it whatever we want it to be called... in this case I named it TvInsim

Now let's finish up and add our new channel to the Broadcast.ini file...

NOTE: If you try modifying the Broadcast.ini file in "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config", it will be overwritten to default configuration by the ini located in "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\UserData\Config" and the custom channel will not work correctly.

NOTE 2: I am assuming that if you do not have university installed then you would need to modify the broadcast.ini file located in "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Config".

EDIT: If you do not have University Expansion Pack installed then please read Post #22

Now all you have to do is make your own .movie files (.avi files might work also?) and place them in your new channel directory... load your game up and have fun

NOTE:  place the .package file in your "My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads" directory for it to work

hi eric. I like the fact that we can get new channels, but so far can we add the ability to raise skills while watching? Or do we have to wait for someone to find out how?

Tim, honestly I do not think .avi files will work but I have not tried so I am unsure about anything beyond what is involved with the example channel itself

I copied existing maxis .movie files to my example custom channel directory and renamed them (for testing purposes of course), but I do not even know what software to use to actually make .movie files... someone else can hopefully post here concerning that lol

Hmmm..I thought they were avi's since that is the format they use when the game creates a movie file of what you tell it to...might be wrong though...time to explore!!

Downloaded AVI files I've put in my tv before were 128x128, but those were the only files that I had work for me and only at that size.
