how do you make a basement? I cant seem to figure it out
and is it possible to make rooms under nothing but terrain?

Now can someone tell me how to connect hipped roofs to walls please?

There is a tutorial page at EA.com. Just remember to not build near the water level or your basements looks flooded.You can build it on higher ground level.
Add a basement to your Sims' home - Regular can be found near the bottom of the Tutorials page.
