Ok before I go on with the next part of Tara's Choice I thought I would share with you a new story that I have been brewing up. I needed a break from that other family. I hope you like it



This is the story of a young couples struggle with infertility. Join them as they go thorough IVF and a lot of pain and suffering. And who knows what may be in store for them.

"Hi, well.... ok this is hard for me to put into writing but I guess I have to do it. My name is Emily Harrison, I'm 33 years old and have a wonderful husband named Caleb who is 35 and a pediatric surgeon at Sparrow Hospital. I work from home as a medical transcriptionist. We live in a nice little 3 bedroom home in a nice community. It seems like everyone around us has children. Thats the whole reasoning of this story, Children. When I was 25 I was diagnosed with something called Polycistic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS. Which basically means I don't ovulate like I should in order to get pregnant. We have been trying to have kids for years but so far no luck. And to be honest my time is about to run out. I know it might not seem like it but in 5 more years it might just be too late. After 8 years of trying It just feel like its never going to happen."


Today is a big day for the Harrison's. Today they are going to see their specialist Dr. Brown for their first try at In vitro fertilization.

Emily and Caleb walked into the doctors office more nervous than anything. They had been being monitored for weeks trying to pin point the time when Emily would ovulate so they could extract her eggs. Emily signed in at the desk as Caleb sat down and began leafing through an old Golf magazine. Emily joined him and also started looking through a magazine. They were the only ones there at 9:15 am and the office was very quiet. Caleb saw how uneasy Emily was and put his arm around her and held her hand. "Don't worry sweetie its going to be ok." He said trying to make her feel better. She looked at him and forced a fake smile and gave him a little kiss on the cheek. She didn't say anything and continued to look through her magazine.


After about 10 minutes of waiting a nurse came to the door and escorted them back into a small room. The nurse gave Emily a gown and stepped out of the room while she changed into it. When the nurse came back in she checked Emily's blood pressure and temperature. "The doctor will be in with you shortly Mrs. Harrison." She said as she walked out the door. Caleb was sitting in an arm chair about 5 feet away from the table she was laying on. "I'm nervous Caleb, what if something else goes wrong?" She said with tears in her eyes. "Oh hunny don't worry it will be ok, this guy is the best doctor in town, I know he will be able to help us he has helped so many others with the same problem." Caleb said very sure of himself. Emily didn't want to get her hopes up and believe him but it was hard not to.


15 more minutes went by and Dr. Brown came into the room. "Hi Emily how are you doing today?" He asked "Oh I'm ok just a big bag of nerves." She said trying to make a joke. "Well you have nothing to be nervous about this is all routine work and after its all said and done you may just end up with a baby in your arms." Dr. Brown said with a smile. He was an older man and looked like he knew what he was talking about. "Ok Emily I'm going to explain to you exactly what we are going to do today, I'm going to start an IV and give you some medicine that will make you fall asleep, then using an ultrasound and a needle we will extract eggs from your follicles inside of you. We will take out all the eggs and then take them to be fertilized in the lab. This whole thing should only take about 30 minutes." He said. "Now do you have any questions before we get started?" He asked. Emily shook her head no and didn't say a word.



In minutes of the nurse starting the IV everything went black.

wow, actually this story was kinda just me alone with my thoughts. Tara's Choice was made after a book called Angels Choice basically about the same thing but I switched the ending and adding a sequel. To be totally honest I love BoolProped's stories and thats where i get most of my inspiration from.

Oh cool.. Tara's Choice's similiar to a book called Briana's Gift but it's not really similiar but it's similiar at the same time. Ha

Cant wait for another update.

Ill have the next update by tomorrow, we had a little too much fun for the holiday and I spent most of today taking care of Hubby and 2 other friends lol

Chapter 2

When Emily woke she was in a recovery room. It was a lot nicer in just the fact that she got to lay in a normal bed with a pillow. She looked around and noticed she was alone. She figured Caleb might just be talking to a doctor or getting a bite to eat in the cafeteria. She found the call button and summoned in a nurse to let them know she was awake. "How are you feeling Mrs. Harrison?" The bright and cheery nurse asked. "Still a little tired but other than that I'm ok. How did it go?" Emily asked not sure if she wanted to hear the answer. "Your husband is with Dr. Brown right now Ill send them both in because he will be able to tell you better than I could dear." She said. With that she was out the door quicker than Emily could reply.


A few moments later Caleb and Dr. Brown walked in. Caleb came straight to her side and kissed her on the forehead. "How are you feeling dear?" He asked. "Well I'm tired but I'm ok, am I suposed to feel worse?" She asked with a chuckle. Dr. Brown took this as a time to tell her his opinion. "Emily you should be feeling just a little tired but not in any pain. Are you in pain?" He asked. "No not at all she said smiling, I was wondering when I can go home? No offense doctor but my beds more comfortable." Everyone got a good laugh in and then the doctor sat down in his chair next to Emily's bed and started to tell her about how everything went and what to expect next. "We retrieved 5 eggs, we took them straight to the lab and began the process of fertilizing them. We will be keeping them under close watch for about 5 days to make sure that fertilization took place. Then we will have you come in again and we will put them back into your uterus. From there we will hope to see one implant and you will get your baby." The doctor said. "Thank you doctor." Caleb said shaking the mans hand. "Yes thank you so much." Emily said with a smile. "Your very welcome, now Ill get those discharge papers drawn up and get you out of here." He said leaving the room.


A few hours later they were back at home and Emily was in her own bed trying to sleep off the rest of the medicine they used to sedate her. Caleb sat at the computer crunching some numbers trying to figure out how they were going to pay for this IVF. The procedure alone costs $7,000 not including all of the fees the doctor charges. Even being a surgeon he dosent make enough money to cover that. He looked at the bank statement and looked at the computer and put his head in his hands and murmurered out loud to himself. "How are we going to do this?" "I can get a second job." A voice piped up from behind him. He turned around and saw Emily standing in the door way. "Oh hunny I didn't know you were there, what are you doing out of bed?" He asked. Getting up to help her to the chair. "Caleb it was an outpatient procedure its not like I just had major surgery. I'm ok." She said. Caleb looked at his wife and noticed the dark circles under her eyes. He knew she had been stressing out over this whole ordeal since they decided to go for it. "Emily I don't want you to have to work a second job its just too much for you. You should be taking it easy." He said. "Well we have to do something." She said. "I know dear, Ill figure something out ok. Don't you worry about it." With that he shut off the computer and followed Emily upstairs and got into bed. Emily lay awake for many hours after turning off the lights. She thought to herself while listening to Caleb's heavy breathing. She thought about all the good things in her life and thought that maybe she was just taking this all too seriously. It was almost daylight before she finally fell asleep.

Chapter 3

5 days had gone by since the egg retrieval and Emily and Caleb found themselves back in Dr. Browns office again. Today was going to be totally different though. Today they were going to put in the embryos and hopefully make a baby. Emily hated how horrible it all sounded to her in her head. Making a baby should be something between 2 people in love, not between a needle and a petri dish. Dr.Brown greeted them and took them back to the same room they had been in just 5 days ago. The horrible chair with the stirrups. Emily got undressed and got into the gown. She sat in the chair and waited for what seemed like an eternity for the doctor to come back in with all the necessary tools. "Ok Emily this is what we are going to do, we will use this tube here called a catheter to put the embryos back into you uterus. It will not take very long maybe about 5 minutes or so. Then we will need you to lay back down and stay like that for about a half hour. That will help direct the embryos. Now I must warn you again that we are putting 4 embryos in and there is a very high chance for multiples with IVF. So there is a chance that more than one will implant. That is still ok right?" Emily looked at Caleb who was standing against the wall with his arms crossed. He nodded at Emily and Dr.Brown which was the go ahead for him to start the procedure.


In about an hour they got the ok to go home. Dr. Brown told Emily to rest for the rest of today and tomorrow. "Take it easy and keep your feet up, the less you are on them the more of a chance you have of those babies attaching." He said as they were leaving the office. In the car on the way home it seemed like everywhere Emily looked there were kids playing, or moms pushing babies in strollers. It was almost too much for her. Caleb noticed her anxiety about it and put his hand on the back of her head. "This will work hun, I know it will." She smiled at him and looked back out the window. She saw her neighbors Jeff and Cindy sitting on their front porch watching their son Jacob ride his bike. Cindy was rubbing her swollen belly. They had been the ones to refer them to Dr.Brown. When Cindy heard that they had been trying to get pregnant she told them that he was how they got pregnant with the twins they are soon to be expecting now. They told them that IVF was the only option they had left and Dr.Brown did it for them in only one try.


Caleb pulled into the drive way and ran to the other side of the car to help Emily out. She hated how he fussed over her but she knew that today was a little more important than earlier that week so she allowed it. He helped her upstairs and into bed. It was nice that she had worn her PJ's to the doctors. She figured it would make it a lot easier on her if she didn't have to wear tight jeans and such. She wasn't tired at all so Caleb pulled up the little tv and gave her the remote and said to call him if she needed anything. He went back downstairs to do some more number crunching.


2 weeks passed and one Saturday morning Emily woke up out of a dead sleep to run to the bathroom. Out of no where she was feeling sick. She cleaned her self up and brushed her teeth. As she opened up the medicine cabinet to put the toothpaste away she saw the Clear Blue digital pregnancy test on the bottom shelf. She took the box out of the cabinet and sat on the edge of the tub and she read the back of the box. "Take with first morning urine and wait 3 to 5 minutes for results" she said out loud. She peeked out the bathroom door into the bedroom and saw that Caleb was still asleep. She took the test out of the box and stared at it for a second. "Should I do it?" she questioned out loud. She thought to herself for a moment and then decided what the heck. When she was done she put the cap back on the test and set it down on the counter. She sat back down on the tub and stared at her bare feet. She tried to think about anything but what that test would say. She didn't have a way to tell when the 3 minutes were up but something just told her to look at the test. She picked it up and closed her eyes. She felt the cool plastic between her fingers and told herself even if it was negative it was ok, it was still early so there is still a chance. She counted to 3 and opened her eyes. She looked down at the test and saw in big bold letters the word PREGNANT.

Emily could barely keep her mind off that word all morning while she was waiting for Caleb to wake up. It took all her might not to wake him up just to tell him the news but she thought it better to let him sleep. She tried to read a book but her mind wandered back to that test. Then she tried to get some work done but once again she kept thinking about that test. Emily went back to the bathroom where she had left the test so Caleb would see it as soon as he woke up. She sat on the toilet once again and just started imagining their life together with a new baby. She thought of how big her belly would get, and how she could feel their little one wiggle around inside her.

Emily was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear Caleb get out of bed and come in to the bathroom.
"What are you doing in here hun?" He asked making her jump just a little
"Oh hunny Ive got the best surprise for you. Close your eyes." Emily said in a teasing voice
Caleb gave her an uneasy look but did what he was told.


"Ok open" she said almost loud enough for the neighbors to hear
Caleb looked at the stick that was shoved into his face as soon as he opened his eyes. It took them a second to focus on the test but as soon as he saw it his face was in shock.

"Oh my god, is it true Emily? Do you feel pregnant?" He asked her hugging her and almost knocking her over.


"Of course its true Caleb, and yes I do actually feel pregnant. I have felt sick all morning and I have a major headache. All classical signs of pregnancy." She said with a big smile.
"Oh my god I cant believe it. Do we call Dr.Brown on a Saturday? I think he should know." He said running to the bedroom to find his wallet with the doctors business card in it. Emily followed after him quickly.
"Hunny I don't think we need to call him right away, and its only 9am he might still be sleeping. I think we can wait until Monday. Lets just keep this little blessing between us for right now. I want to enjoy the weekend with you." She said wrapping her arms around him and give him a nice long passionate kiss. When the kiss ended he kept holding on to her waist and looked her in the eyes.
"Emily I love you with all of my heart. I cant wait to have our little baby in our arms. Now lets get dressed and go celebrate." He said


They decided to take the day and spend it on the town. They would go their favorite deli for lunch at noon and then spend the rest of the day going to all the stores in the strip mall downtown. After they finished up their lunch they headed into a few stores. The one that made the biggest impact was the store they usually stay as far away from as possible. The Baby's Room. Instead of shying away from it they took a venture inside to look around. There was so much baby stuff that Emily couldnt believe her eyes. Cribs, strollers, diapers, clothes, just about anything you could imagine that a baby would need. They browsed around for almost 45 minutes until Emily came across a cute little teddy bear that caught her eye. It looked just like a toy she used to play with when she was younger. She picked it up and ran her hands along the soft toys fabric. Caleb came over to her and put his arm on her shoulder.
"Almost ready to go hunny?" He asked.
"Almost, Caleb do you mind if we buy this toy, you know for the baby?" She asked him looking at him with pleeding eyes.
Caleb could see how important this was to her so he nodded in agreement and they payed for the bunny and left the store to head home.


When Emily got home she took the bear and placed it on the floor next to an end table in the spare bedroom that would soon be the nursery. She stared at it for a moment before turning off the light and heading to bed with Caleb. The rest of the weekend was spent at home relaxing together. The weather was beautiful outside and the BBQ'ed Sunday afternoon and watched the sun set before heading inside. It was truly a beautiful weekend.
