I don't know what's going on but everytime I open up a Sim Family it always turn out like this:

I would start by updating my videocard drivers.

I tried updating my graphics card but it says my computer doesn't match the requirements. Is there another way I can fix this problem?

find out wat videocard you running.
Also reinstall direct x 9.0 C
Does this happen on maxis default lots /family also?
Its possible that there's custom content(like a high polygon hairmesh, or such) that your videocard cant handle.

This only happens when I go into my families. It never happened with the default lots.

Do you know what brand and model of videocard you have?  You should always be able to update your drivers unless you have a very old computer.

And about this:

What program said that?  Did your recently add a new ep? The minimum requirement got higher since OFB.

If this helps any, I have ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Series. The only EP I added was NL. And sorry for the double posts.
