The Sims 2 is not installed or installed incorrectly...

Hi everyone, so I have a problem. Ive been enjoying my Sims and all the lovely custom content for months for now without a problem, but today my sister saw the Kitchen and Bath stuff pack in a store today and bought it because she thought it would be cool.

So we tried installing it, and whenever the installation gets to 99% and checks to see it all installed properly I keep getting "The Sims 2 is not installed or is improperly installed on your machine. Please install or reinstall The Sims 2."

I don't know what's wrong, the game is obviously installed correctly on my system!! Help please.

UPDATE:

Okay, so I finally managed to get Kitchen & Bath stuff AND Open For Business installed by just biting the bullet and reinstalling all my games last night in order of release. Everything installed fine it would seem, EXCEPT now I went to play with a Sim I made that was wearing the Maxis kimono that is black with pink cherry blossom petals, only the outfit is MISSING from the game!  

When I loaded her up she was wearing something else and when I checked her clothes closet it wasn't there, nor was it in clothing racks or in the Create-A-Sim clothing library!

Anybody ever heard of a Maxis outfit going missing from the game??

I've had maxis objects go missing... but that was due to the sheer stupidity on my part.  I had a custom object that overrode the "sunburst" oriental rug and thought it would never work again... until I cleaned out my custom content folder and saw that it re-appeared in my Buy Mode catalog.  Maybe there's an outfit that overrode that default one in your game?  Just a hunch.  :scratch:

Well, I removed all my custom content from the Downloads folder, booted up the game - and the kimono is still not there! I booted up the game on my sister's laptop and she still has the content (after also having installed everything) and I also realized the outfits next to the kimonos (the Indian saris) were also missing. Could the installation of Kitchen & Bath stuff, or Open for Business somehow screwed up (surprise, surprise) and deleted those outfits...?

According to lord Darcy over at MTS2 in this thread,

The Kitchen & Bath Stuff Pack updated Property Sets of all base game clothing to Pets. Base game adult clothes previously unavailable for YAs are now enabled for YAs as well.
However, EAxis made the same kind of mistake as omitting Seasons/FT functions for appliances. The default wedding dress was made buyable in OFB, but they never care about updated features from later EPs, of course.

So I'm guessing it's the same kind of problem that made the wedding dress disappear that has made the saris and kimonos disappear: they did not update the Property Set for those clothes included in OFB.

So is there an unlock file to get back those kimonos and saris? Like a generic unlocking file?

Well I'm not sure if the wedding dress fix will help you...but you could always try asking Lord Darcy himself in the above thread.

thats really wierd, cuz i have both and mo maxis stuff is misssing.(even though i have plenty of custom stuff that i'll probably never use it again LOL)
But , i don't know whats up w/ your game or PC.

Yes! YES! The white big piano comes with FT went missing after I reinstalled some EP's.
