"Photoshopping" Help

heres what happened..

ok i do the whole removing the backround thing..which ive got that part..
now i try to do the "layer from backround"  or backround from layer..not sure which it said and it opens a plain page..and i cant paste my backround i want onto it.

not sure what i did wrong...but it seems like im not gonna get used to it..
