31  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Paysite Discussion Thread on: July 12, 2007, 09:14:36 pm
I cannot create anything. All my efforts wind up looking like the dog's barfed up breakfast. I have contributed to paysites for things I wanted and did so as my way of thanking the creator. I cannot even begin to understand the amount of time involved in creating some of the wonderful things the Sims Community has offered us. I may be the minority here, but I understand why someone would want to be paid for all their efforts. It is a matter of choice, either you will pay for something you want or you won't. As for EA to actually do something about their copywrite, c'mon, the game has been around for a very long time, and they have yet to do a single thing. I think they know without custom content the game would not be as interesting and their sales would plummet. I think if you created something unique it should be your property and your decision as to whether you sell it or post it on a free site. If yu make a profit, so be it, if your creation is a disaster, so be it. That's the real world.
We all have a choice, and should respect each person's choice.
As for EA, well their product is not the best they could do, but as long as we buy it flaws and all, we are encouraging them to keep putting out less than their best.
32  A Safe Haven / General Discussion / Re: I love my cat... (pictures included.) on: June 23, 2007, 08:57:31 pm
Paden, I'm dying of laughter here. None of my 5 cats have ever even seen a mouse, so I'm really not sure what they'd do if they did. We had a rabbit for a while and the youngest, Squeak, started hopping like the rabbit.
I did have a cat for 17 years, a beautiful black and white majestic fellow. My Dad wanted him to come to his house for a few days to catch this mouse he had in his garage. No amount of my explaining that Morgan had never even seen a mouse before was sufficient for my Dad to just set a trap. So I dropped Morgan off for a few days. The end of the second day my Dad called, "Come get this stupid cat." That was the entire conversation, no hello, no goodbye, just that terse sentence. So off I go to pick up my beloved friend. It seems that afternoon, while they were both sitting in the garage the tiny mouse came out for a peek. Morgan was in dreamland, the mouse watched him carefully for several seconds, detecting no movement, the mouse bravely decided to further investigate this creature. He crept up to Morgan's paw, where upon Morgan opened his eyes, saw the little feller, and promptly closed his eyes and returned to basking in the sun. My poor father nearly had a stroke. He could not believe that a cat would pass up an opportunity for "fresh" mouse meat in favour of dried cat food. As I was putting Morgan into the car, my Dad remarked that if a cat couldn't "mouse", it was a worthless kind of cat. I in turn replied, I'm sure the thought of mouse breath grossed him out.

I am "owned" by 5 gracious cats, who feel I should pay homage to them on a daily basis for said bestowed priviledge.
What can I say, is there anything more touching than when they come to give me their version of "kisses", little taps with thier soft noses, tiny taps with their silken paws, or gentle licks with their sandpapery tongues?
Each one has their own set of distinctive meows, and usually I understand the meaning behind each one.
And where on earth would we be, if they were much to aloof to allow us the joy of watching their "Cat Crazies"?
Ahhh, the comfort of having one of their soft bodies nestled next to me, the joy they show me from their eyes as I caress their soft fur, the satisfying purring that emanates from these tiny bodies, yep, life is sweet, if you're "owned" by cats.
35  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Sub-Download Folders? on: June 06, 2007, 10:01:00 am
Keeping in mind Yakov's sage advice, I still have all my downloads in sub-folders. Luckily I have never had a problem (not counting the times I crash my computer while not playing the Sims), but I do have everything, and I do mean everything backed up on another drive just in case. It never hurts to be thorough.
36  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Just Curious to Know on: June 06, 2007, 09:57:26 am
Thank you Kathy and Yakov, I did assume it would be a monumental undertaking which is why I specified it was not a request. But thinking about it, you have to concede that horse drawn carriages going at a breakneck speed would actually be quite funny, hazardous, but still funny none the less.
37  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Just Curious to Know on: June 06, 2007, 03:35:56 am
As stated I am just curious to know whether or not this is possible, and please I am not requesting that anyone do this for me.
I am one of the probably few who plays "Themes". My particular interest is Medieval and Victorian, and I have 2 custom created neighbourhoods for this obsession of mine.
I have all the custom content I need to play, careers, horses, clothing, hair styles, etc,and also the No School hack.
I even have cobblestone roads which are wonderful, but I am curious to know if there is a way to convert the rest of the neighbourhood to my desired theme. I pretty much ignore the cars and trucks transversing my cobblestone roads, but it would be really awesome if I could somehow turn those vehicles into horses and carriages.
Having expressed said desire, I do think it is not possible, I can't imagine the time involved, or all the coding and complexity of things of that nature beyond my ability to understand that would be required.
38  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Paysite Discussion Thread on: June 04, 2007, 10:46:59 am
I'm envious of anyone who can create. I have cognitive disabilities, cannot focus, concentrate etc, so learning the complexities of creating is beyond me. Having said that I will admit to falling into the Pay-Site --oh I have to have that, and willingly paid for it. My choice. Having said that, I went on my merry way downloading this that and everything, and then found my game to take close to an hour to load. So I went about the lengthy task of cleaning out my downloads folder. And what did I discover?Huh?
To my utter shock and amazement 95% of my "get rid of this" was my pay site downloads.
Then I discovered this site, along with it's sister site and MTS2, and I was in  download heaven. With one small problem, I love with all my heart the creations by Cashcraft at The Sims Resource, so that is the only pay site I continue to be a member of.
I did try several times to make clothing, but my results were enough to scare a hungry dog away from it's breakfast. If making clothing was that difficult I can only imagine the time and effort put forth in the creation of objects. And new meshes----well I can't even imagine the work.
I understand someone wanting to be reimbursed for all the work they put into something, I crochet afghans and sew quilts, but not for free, (unless I am giving one as a gift) and yet, I am so incredibly grateful for the many talented and excellent artists who unselfishly offer up their delectable goodies for free.
This game would have long ago lost it's appeal for a great many of us, if it weren't for the Custom Content, offered by such wonderful sites as this one. And times have changed for me as well, now that I am on a disability pension, I no longer can afford to frequent the Pay-Sites, as I once used to.
I am of the opinion that EA would benefit beyond belief if they hired some of the creators from these free sites to actually create for the game itself and future expansion packs. The content of the game itself would be vastly improved leading to possible higher sales.

40  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Major Brain Dead Moment on: April 07, 2007, 12:00:56 am
I don't know, the meshes and clothing files are in my "Downloads folder" right where they have always been. I decided it's best to wait until the brain fog evaporates, I may have missed a step, but I know I haven't deleted anything from my folders lately. I should tho, I really should.............10.3 gigs, and everytime someone makes something incredible, *twitches* gotta *twitches* have *twitches* that *twitches*
41  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Major Brain Dead Moment on: April 06, 2007, 10:08:08 pm
I looked for the answer to this, but couldn't find it. After years of playing the game, I cannot remember the most trivial things. In order for newly created Sims, is it best to create them in body shop, and then go into game CAS and tweak? I tried making a Sim to-day, and I really messed up. The bodyshape reverts to maxis default, and I can't for the life of me remember how I made my other Sims, cause it doesn't haappen to them. Been a long time since I created one of my own.
Also in my defense, am on new medication that's messing with my short-term memory, so the concentration thing is kinda crappy right now too.
Boy.............is this embarrasing!
42  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / has any one have phone problems with seasons? on: April 02, 2007, 01:12:52 am
Clean Installer will check all your downloads, if you have duplicates, they will he highlighted in pink, if you have hacks, they will be highlighted in red. You then have the option of either removing the hack or disabling it. removing it is permanent, disabling  it allows you to test the in-game hacks you have, to find the one that is giving you a problem.
Paladin also has a Hack Utility conflict program, that will tell you if any hacks you have in your game conflict with one another, but I'm sorry, I can't think of his url at the moment.
43  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Computer explanation request on: April 02, 2007, 01:01:48 am
Thanks Ancienthighway, but the problem occured overnight, and the computer was not turned off. I'm wondering if I had a brief power outage then? A couple of times the power has gone off and then back on so quickly, that I've never given it a moments notice. After thinking about it, I decided to log off, and then turn off this computer when I am finished with it. After having gone through 2 spetacular crashes, and loosing everything, I don't want to take any more chances. The thing I don't understand is why it only ever has affected my second hard drive, never once my primary one. Since I have been turning the computer off, I have not had any more problems.

Kathy, thank you very much for moving my thread,:thumbrig: I finally got an answer to my problem, in spite of posting it in a number of places, one most notably being a "so-called" computer assistance specialist site.:angry6:, 4 days later and I am now going to go there and request they remove it, 21 views and no replys, if it was in the wrong place all they had to do was tell me.
44  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Computer explanation request on: March 31, 2007, 09:44:12 am
Can anyone help me with this? This morning I got up, turned on my Sims computer, and there was a message on my screen, "delay write failed......blah blah blah.
I have 2 hard drives on that computer, and use the second one for file saving purposes only. (Copy Sims2 folders for back up on that drive).
Am now having trouble opening Windows on that computer, presently it is doing the "checking file system" thingy, and that is going quite slowly.
I am wanting to know just what is this "delay write" tool? The function, the purpose?
I'm not quite sure how this goes, my primary drive is 1G, and my secondary drive is 80 g's (?). Meaning my primary drive is the larger of the 2. I am in the land of utter confusion when it comes to mg's, kb's gig's, having no idea whatsoever, what any of that actually means. (other than a space measurement, but I'm old school, miles, not kilometres, farenhiet, not celcius, neither of which it appears I can spell properly at the moment)
Since I cannot get into that computer, all I can tell you is that I exceed all of the requirements to play Sims2, pertaining to Video card, speed, and space, etc. I am running Windows XP, home edition, and until today have not had any problems, apart from 2 spectacular crashes where I inadvertantly wiped my entire hard drive. Silly me, I had to do it twice, as if once was not devastating enough! But that issue has been resloved, the reason for the crashes has been discovered and repaired. Since then my computer has been running smoothly, no issues, glitches, etc., until this morning.

Would I be better off only enableing the second drive when I copy my folders and/or replace them, and then disabeling the drive when I am finished? This is the first time the computer has not opened, so to speak, after this "delay write" message has appeared. It has operated before after displaying this message, so I am completely in the dark as to what my actual problem is.
45  Simmers' Paradise / Sims Stories / Seeking Deeply The End on: March 30, 2007, 06:34:46 am
OMG, okay I am officially adding myself to the legions of fans you have managed to enthrall.  It is 7:26am, and I have just now finished reading all 3 stories. I started at 11PM! Thank the good Lord above I'm not on dial-up.
The twist, turns, doublecrosses, and cliffhangers *clutches heart*. The intense longing I am experiencing for another update, I simply cannot finds the words to express my admiration. Rarely does a story have the ability to reduce me to a blithering, sobbing mess. I had to get a box of kleenex and sit it beside my monitor. Now that I think of it, this would actually be awesome if I knew how to print out the updates, with the amazing pictures. It is definitely a book I would re-read, over and over and over..............
