62  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Sims freezing to death in CAS on: October 20, 2007, 10:23:21 am
Weird, I didn't know about this thread or I would have posted about that...
A solution was quickly found when the issue arose, and you can build custom CAS that won't be affected by this Seasons bug, using Numenor's AnyGameStarter (formerly the BGS or Base Game Starter) to make your CAS in any version prior to Seasons. The only downside is that you won't be able to use CC that requires Seasons.

66  Simmers' Paradise / Content Creation & Recoloring Help / blurg... force re-indexing of vertices? on: September 23, 2007, 02:55:52 am
Bloom, the chain doesn't seem off to me in the second screenshot? It's intended for the huge BB and looks rather weird on regular sims, but that's normal.
It's known that a few Maxis glasses aren't suitable for cloning, like the "evenmorehip", so the usual advice is to use the "thickrim" glasses. Now I looked in the googles in the past, and they use a different kind of files for the second set so they may not be safe either.

Also, I had somebody with BV installed test my version of the chain and it shows properly, with only A, YA and elder files in the package... I'm very confused here.

Now, the display issue was a common one when Pets was released and happened even on Maxis glasses such as the googles, it appeared that the StandardMaterial was broken and changing it to SimStandardMaterial fixed that, at least when it was suitable for the accessory - Yakov it right, it's most probably related somehow to this thing with reflective skintones not displaying properly anymore. But I thought the issue was solved for accessories in Seasons, at least it is for me.

Uploading my version (with the default glasses texture) in case we can find a pattern...

70  Simmers' Paradise / Tutorials / Body animations tips and tricks on: September 19, 2007, 03:43:57 pm
Dear people, I'm getting a crapload of animation requests and there's no way I can do it all!!

On the other side I'm SURE some of you would love to play with this, and are talented enough to come up with really good stuff and new ideas - and even if you aren't too sure about your skills, simple animations can be lots of fun!

You'll find a "tutorial" in the .rar file below; it isn't a step by step tutorial, those are listed below, but it should help you get quickly started if you have a basic knowledge of SimPE and Milkshape, and avoid common issues.
In the .rar file is also included a test object in which you'll just need to replace the animations with yours according to the instructions; 3 are regular animations, and 3 more are set in a loop.

Big thanks to Wes_H for allowing me to beta test his plugins and for his continued hard work, and to Beosboxboy for the html formatting Smiley

Needed tools

- a recent version of SimPE
- Milkshape 3D 1.8.1b (there are some issues with 1.8.1a)
- Wes_h's Unimesh and Animesh plugins.

Tutorials and must read

- the Milkshape help: for your first steps with animations in Milkshape, there's an easy to follow tutorial in the help files, which you can download from the Chumbalum site and just put in your Milkshape program folder. While the chosen example is simple, the explanations are quite complete. You don't need to bother with the part about setting up the skeleton and assigning the vertices since you're going to use Unimesh extracted meshes, so you can just jump to the "create a walk animation" part.

- the Animesh exporter program notes, for details about the use of the plug-in: there's no reason to rewrite here what Wes explains clearly and extensively.

While this is not immediately necessary, my advice is still to try John Brehaut's very well done sim animations tutorial that explains how to make your own test object (and skip the parts related to Miche's animation converter), and from there Echo's perfect BHAVs tutorials HERE and HERE ; you may find that new interactions aren't as daunting as you thought, and this will be an inspiration for more elaborate stuff.

For objects animations, please refer to Echo's tutorials HERE and HERE.

Xtian, neither Beosboxboy or me have ever made default replacements...
All our skintones are custom, and will show only on the sims for which you have chosen them (bodyshape included).
73  Simmers' Paradise / Content Creation & Recoloring Help / Oh, fiddlesticks... SimsPe help? on: September 15, 2007, 01:58:07 am
With  the PJSE body mesh tool, findind the parts and putting them in a package takes 5 seconds at most, maybe less for the linking to the texture package. It's good to know the boring way, but this made my life much easier Cheesy

Dupheaul, you mention extracting the GMND: no export button, you need to just right-click the line in the top window and choose "extract" - same goes for all the other parts.
