31  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / No Autonomous Gussy Up/Check Self Out At Mirror - Sims 3 on: July 23, 2009, 06:25:15 am
No Autonomous Gussy Up Mirror should curb the behavior of the Sim going to a mirror to gussy up.

No Autonomous Check Self Out Mirror
should curb the behavior of the Sim going to a mirror to check self out.

Both mods can be used separately or together.

Sims 3 only!
32  Resident Creators / EP6 Mods / No Autonomous Watch Waves - BV: July 23, 2009 on: July 23, 2009, 05:41:30 am
The mod nukes the autonomous behavior of Sims watching the waves, but the mod does not nuke the option to watch the ocean waves.

Bon Voyage is required.
33  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / Children Can Make Meals - Sims 3 on: July 15, 2009, 04:02:28 pm
The "Children Can Make Meals - Sims 3" mod enables children to do the following:

Features:

Get ingredients from the fridge
Prepare meals and desserts
Cook, Fry, Grill or Bake meals or desserts
Use food equipment to prepare meals or desserts
Prepare and serve food to toddlers in their high chairs
Give baby food or bottle to toddlers in their high chairs
Use and store recipes in the food replicator
Prepare and cook meals or desserts in the microwave
Call To Meals

Food Equipment:

Food Replicator
Stove
Microwave
Food Processor
Grill

Tasks:

Can clean up unprepared food from the counter

NOTE:

The cooking mod may or may not conflict with other mods affecting cooking, preparing and using food equipment to make and serve the meals. Use Indie Stone's Compatibility Checker to check for any conflict.

The animations will look odd on children, but they exist to enable children to prepare and cook meals like their older counterparts. In Sims 3, there are no stepladders for children to put down and hop onto to reach the counter or any high surface. They will "stretch" temporarily until they're finished preparing or cooking meals.

34  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / Children Can Read Skill Books - Updated: December 15, 2009 on: July 15, 2009, 07:58:44 am
World Adventures

The new World Adventures mod enable children to study WA-only as well traditional skillbooks:

Martial Arts
Photography
Nectar Making
Charisma
Cooking
Gardening
Handiness
Logic

Install Location:

New mods for World Adventures should be installed in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Mods\Packages (XP users)

Vista and Windows 7 users:

You will have to navigate to the main Sims 3 world Adventures folder to install the mods.

I can't help you with the install issues or questions because I don't use either Vista or Windows 7. You will have to search the Sims 3 forums for help installing them.

NOTE:

The new package, ChildrenCanReadSkillBooks-WA, is for World Adventures only. Install the appropriate mod.

Original Sims 3:

Children can read the skill books that weren't originally available to them and gain skill points just like the teens, adults and elders do:

Gardening
Cooking
Charisma
Handiness

I am not sure if children can already read the recipes, but I assumed they can even if they can't read the skill books but gain skill points through the toy oven.

NOTE:

This mod may or may not conflict with other mods editing the skill books. Make sure to use Indie's Compability Checker to check for any conflict.

35  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / Reputation Gain All Lots - Alternate Version - Apartment Life on: July 05, 2009, 05:38:00 pm
This mod enables the Sims to gain good or bad reputations on all lots (both residential and community) by performing positive or negative interactions with other Sims, BUT it does not give large boosts or losses to the reputations like Squinge's original Reputation Gain/Loss On All Lots mod did.

The internal code of the mod is left intact; the only changes I made were to the values to reduce the amount of gain or loss from the interactions to boost the reputation gain or loss like the original mod did.

The Sims will actually work harder to gain or lose their reputations Pescado-style. MOAR suffering!!

Apartment Life only. Mansions and Gardens (MG) may be compatible.

As usual, do not upload anywhere and everywhere.
36  Resident Creators / EP7 Mods / No Autonomous Basketball - FreeTime on: July 05, 2009, 05:28:01 pm
This mod curbs the autonomous behavior of Sims wanting to play basketball. Does not nuke the interaction to play basketball.

38  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / What You Need To Know About Images on: June 25, 2009, 05:06:56 pm
Since people have been ignoring the posting guidelines, found HERE or not even reading them before posting their requests for help, I thought I'd put this in its own thread. Now, pay attention if you do not want to lose your WCIF thread:

For some reason, it seems as if people don't think that the "please host your pictures on a third party site before posting them" doesn't apply to THIS section. I have news: IT DOES. If your pictures are not hosted by Photo Bucket or Image Shack or something similar and are instead loaded onto the IS server, you may get the unpleasant surprise of finding them deleted or your whole thread deleted.

Also, image size limit is 600 x 600. Exceed that and the image will be deleted. We do NOT have the time and energy to go around re-sizing images that are too big and putting them on our own third party image accounts and then posting them.

If your thread goes bye-bye, don't gripe because you are supposed to read the guidelines. They aren't just suggestions, they are rules. Thank you and have a nice day.

39  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Hotlinking: what it is, and why it's not allowed. on: June 25, 2009, 05:00:38 pm
There is still confusion about hotlinking images and why it's not allowed. Hopefully this explanation will help clear this up for those of you who are still confused.

Hotlinking to an image (also known as piggybacking, leeching and other descriptive names) is when you use the img tags to wrap around an image found on another site to make it appear here, or any other site. This is bandwidth theft. Every time a page with a hotlinked image is loaded, the outside server has to use bandwidth to display the image... bandwidth someone else is paying for. It's bad netiquette and we don't allow it. If it helps you to understand, it's like someone else plugging into your phone line to make a long distance call you have to pay for. Bandwidth theft is a serious issue since you are, in essence, stealing money out of someone's pocket.

What you should do is save the image to your computer and upload it to a third party image hosting service, such as Photobucket, Imageshack or whatever hosting site you prefer, and display it here that way. Most image hosting sites are simple to use and will provide you with the bulletin board code you need for your images to display here. It only takes a few minutes to upload and grab the code (so the oft seen "I didn't have the time" excuse is a poor one, indeed). Any images we find hotlinked will be removed and if you keep hotlinking after being asked not to, you will be warned and possibly even banned.

40  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Pictures / Breathtaking Screenshots on: June 21, 2009, 06:27:35 pm
A while ago, I was playing one of my Sims 3 favorites, and I had her play chess on the beach when I saw something truly breathtaking that makes Sims 3 fun to play.

Share your breathtaking screenshots!  cool
41  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / You And Your Mod Creations on: June 19, 2009, 06:01:30 pm
You And Your Mod Creations

After Sims 3 hit the streets around the world, a handful of people decided to try their hand at creating new modding tools or new sims 3 mods.

BUT, the tools and mods are still being tweaked and improved upon as time goes on. Some mods simply didn't work. Some tools simply didn't work. People took the time to post their issues or complaints in the creators' threads at various sites, and unfortunately, not all of the creators are keen on fixing their broken mods or tools.

So... please take the time to read the guideline and expectations below if you truly want to share your Sims 3 mods with other people here on the site.

Screenshots:

If you feel a screenshot will help explain or show how the mod in question is used for a certain Sim or object behavior, you can. Post only one screenshot as an attachment.

Or you can host the screenshot using a third party site such as Photobucket, Image Shack and so forth. IF you go this route to host a screenshot via a third party site, please include the following tags to comply with the 600x600 rule as this applies to the Sims 3 screenshots too:

Example:

[*IMG height=600 width=600*]your 3rd party link to your screenshot[*/IMG*]

The * is used to make the HTML tags show up to be used as an example. Remove the * from the actual HTML tags when you link your screenshot to your post.

Most third party image hosting sites will provide convenient HTML tags to host your images. Copy and paste the appropriate tags for the forums.

You don't have to use screenshots at all if your mods are simple enough in description to be used.

If you post more than one screenshot, we reserve the right to remove excess screenshots to comply with the site rules.

Descriptions:

Please provide clear and simple descriptions for your mods. Include info about what the mod does and state what game the mod is for even though the mods are going to be hosted for Sims 3.

Some people will misunderstand the creators' intentions for the mods to be used by and only Sims 3.

Install Instructions:

If your mod has to be installed in another location OTHER than the installation location such as a file to modify the game itself, PLEASE provide clear and simple instructions to install the mod.

For general mods:

XP:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

Vista:

C:\whatever directory you use for Vista\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

Windows 7:

Unknown **Please contact me to provide the actual installation location for Windows 7**

Linux (All Flavors):

Unknown **Please contact me to provide the actual installation locations for the most common Linux flavors such as Debian, SuSE, Mandrake (Mandriva), Ubuntu, Red Hat and whatnot**

Mac:

/Applications/The Sims 3/The Sims 3.app/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin/Mods/Packages

**Credit goes to Will for providing info about Macs**

Please enclose a text file with your zipped mod to include install instructions and mod descriptions.

Responsibility:

You are responsible for your mods if you plan to upload them to the Sims 3 Pudding - Improvements section.

You are responsible for keeping your threads in check for any comments, complaints or suggestions that are/will be posted in your threads.

You must make sure your mods actually work before you upload your mods. Take at least a week or two to play Sims 3 with your own mods installed to make sure they work and tweak them if need be before you feel they are ready to be released.

Reason being is that I have seen several complaints on one site directed to one creator whose mods DID NOT work period. He had not acknowledged any of the complaints regarding his Sims 3 mods.

Please make sure your mods work before you upload them. We will reserve the right to remove non-working mods or delete the threads altogether if you do not make reasonable efforts to address the issues or concerns.

CAVEAT EMPTOR (BUYER BEWARE):

We, the IS/ISA staff, are not responsible for providing help/assistance/tech support to any issue, problem or concern arising from the improperly created/installed mod(s) in all of the Sims 3 sections and its childboards.

The creators are totally responsible for their own mods and their own threads associated with said mods.

42  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / How To Use Sims 3 Mods on: June 19, 2009, 02:46:04 pm
How To Use Sims 3 Mods

Have you wondered how to use new mods with Sims 3, but you have no idea what to do? This short guide will help you get started!

You will need the following to install in order for the mods to work with Sims 3 and to force Sims 3 to read the mods:

Pescado's Framework mod

Q: Okay, what is the framework mod?

The framework mod, in a nutshell, is a file to force Sims 3 to read the mods created by other people for Sims 3. Without the framework mod installed, Sims 3 will not read and use the mods to override certain behaviors or game play features in the game.

The full description of the framework mod is available for those of you to understand more in detail what it does. Read the description and installation instructions if you like to install the framework mod manually.

Q: How do I install the framework mod the easy way? I don't want to do it manually!

Okay, no problem! Delphy graciously designed a nifty program and made it available at MTS for those of you who like installing things the easy way.

Check out TS3 Install Helper Monkey For Dummies. Read the description and installation instructions carefully before you download and use it.

Q: Help! I can't get Delphy's TS3 Install Helper Monkey to work!

All questions, issues, complaints and gripes should be addressed in the thread for TS3 Install Helper Monkey at MTS and not here. We don't provide tech support for you to get the program to work for you.

Q: Where can I go for help with the framework mod?

Again, you should post your questions, issues, complaints and/or gripes in the thread from where you got the framework mod. We don't provide tech support for you to get the framework mod to work with Sims 3.

Q: Where are the exact location(s) for the mods to be installed?

The most common location to install Sims 3 mods is:

For XP:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

Vista is quite similar. Navigate to \Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages and put the mods into that folder.

For Mac:

/Applications/The Sims 3/The Sims 3.app/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin/Mods/Packages

**Credit goes to Will for providing info about Macs**

Do NOT install the mods in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserAccount\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads

Why? Because the Downloads folder isn't the same as the Downloads folder in Sims 2. If the mods are placed there, Sims 3 will ignore those mods. The Sims 3 Downloads folder is used by the EA Electronic Store to download the objects from the store and store them in that folder. The objects from that folder show up in the Installer manager when you install new stuff upon launching the game.

Some creators will include their own installation instructions for certain Sims 3 mods or files to be placed in as some files aren't "mods" in the sense that they modify a Sim or an object behavior but those files modify the Sims 3 core game files as in how the game runs.

Contact me if you want to add further information to help others understand how to use Sims 3 mods correctly.
43  The Sims 3 / Pudding Improvements / Faster Novel Writing - Sims 3: Updated - December 4th 2009 on: June 19, 2009, 02:14:07 pm
NEW World Adventures NEW

Both mods have been updated for World Adventures with minor changes, but both mods still retain the original features to enable Sims to write novels faster and gain skill points in order to unlock the genres or to write novels faster with all genres unlocked.

Choose only ONE mod to install:

Faster Novel Writing No Unlocked Genres - WA
Faster Novel Writing Unlocked Genres - WA

Genres means basically the different types of topics authors write about. For example, authors write science fiction books. Science Fiction is a genre. The genre the Sim writes about is the genre you choose on the computer for your Sim to write.

The install location for World Adventures is for XP users:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Mods\Packages

For Vista and Windows 7 users:

The mod should be installed in the Mods subfolder of the World Adventures main directory or similar. I don't use Vista or Windows 7 and can't help you with the installation questions. You'll have to search the Sims 3 forums for information regarding that matter.

Basic Description:

Faster Writing Novels allow the Sims to write novels faster.

NOTE:

A Sim without the BookWorm and/or Artist traits (or similar traits to speed up skilling/painting/writing) will spend around 8 to 12 hours writing a novel (depending on the genre) from start to finish.

A Sim with the BookWorm and/or Artist traits (or similar traits to speed up skilling/painting/writing) will spend slightly less time writing a novel (depending on the genre) from start to finish, meaning that if a Sim (without the BookWorm and/or Artist or similar traits) spent 8 hours, then the other Sim (with the BookWorm and/or Artist or similar traits) will spend around 4 to 6 hours depending on what type of genre is used for the novel.

Each genre is unlocked for the traits the Sim have regardless of what skill level the Sim has for writing novels. Only Painting level 6 is required I believe to write a children's book.

No royalties were increased to be paid out, and no skills were given instantly. The Sims will have to work hard to gain skills and more money, BUT they will write novels faster though.

NEW:

The new alternate version does not unlock all of the genres for Sims with no skills to write novels. Meaning that the Sims with no skills will not write a novel ranging from Children's to Vaudeville until they gain the appropriate skills and levels to unlock the genres.

This version still retains the original features for faster writing and no bigger royalty payouts.

Install Instructions:

XP:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

Vista:

C:\Whatever Directory You Use For Vista\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

UPDATED - JULY 11, 2009 - UPDATED

Re-download the mod if you have the original installed. A new version is out. Thanks!
44  Resident Creators / Mod Requests / ATTENTION - SIMS 3 INFO - ATTENTION: 6-19-09 on: June 04, 2009, 01:56:13 pm
Now, we got your attention..

There will be NO Sims 3 requests for new mods, patterns, objects or meshes to be posted in Squinge's section.

There will be NO double-posting requesting the same thing over and over if the original request was locked or removed.

There will be NO badgering me, Jenna, Squinge or ANY creator on the site to make Sims 3 mods.

The reasons:

- No SimPE capable of doing extensive modding, creating, cloning, meshing for Sims 3
- No other tools readily available to make modding easier for us
- The game is a few days old.. Be patient.

We will lock or remove any Sims 3 request until further notice.

Thank you!

Squinge and his minions plus Mistress Jenna

Updated Info:

When we are able to figure out and create mods for Sims 3, they will be tested thoroughly before they're posted into the Sims 3 section. Until more tools are available to do extensive modding for Sims 3, we will not accept requests for Sims 3 mods. What mods we come up with for Sims 3 will be what we think will help the game be enjoyed more or be improved for better game play.
45  Resident Creators / Squinge's Mods / No Autonomous RC Cars - Universal: 5-16-09 on: May 16, 2009, 10:54:27 pm
This mod curbs the autonomous "Play With" interaction on the RC cars. Does not nuke the "Play With" option on these cars if directed by the player. Do not upload anywhere and everywhere.
